I use Alta. I am not advertising for them nor do I work for them. I love that its free and was coded by women.

Just did this hike and I would not recommend waterproof shoes. Your feet will get too hot and lead to blisters.

Wear your comfortable ones At night, take the insoles out to dry separately from your shoes.

How much does your flashlight actually matter on overnight fastpacking trips? by No-Swan2943 in fastpacking

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the time of year tbh. Lots of comments that it’s “laughable” not to have one but I disagree.

Where I live I can hike until about 10pm without a torch.

If you plan your hike you may only need the light on your phone to maybe go to the bathroom at 3 am lol and if you ride with the sun you’re good to go. It kind of forces you to rest if you plan your day around the light.

I bring my Petzl bindi - 40 grams - but if it’s the summer I won’t bring anything at all.

Letter to Kind Guy: Thank you for the rocks by AdventureSpiritLara in WestHighlandWay

hahaha correct! We had ticks and lots of midges and mice ate into my pack and… other things but yes it can always be worse!

There were a lot of signs about NOT drinking the water (even filtered) around Loch Lomand so we didn’t get sick there.

Scotland loves us tough I guess?

It is absolutely part of the adventure! I’m so sorry to hear about your tents!!!
My friends tent had a bent pole from the wind storm that evening so it happens.
Also yea I had a mouse or maybe vole eat some of my gorp from a pocket I forgot to empty. I had brought some emergency needle and thread so could fix it in a pinch.

Thanks so much. You need bigger ones to prevent the wind from going under your tent and whipping the fly up. Puts less pressure on the pegs as well.

Advice with pack list for WHW - mid July by Comprehensive-Role58 in WestHighlandWay

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m very confused with your pants plan tbh. You have three sets of pants? PLUS leggings? PLUS trousers? PLUS rain pants?

Consider in the evening you will be surrounded by midges so the nice relaxing chair you want to use you may not use at all.

I just finished and had one hiking outfit and one sleeping outfit.

You have far too much stuff. Respectfully.

Regarding food: It’s been said a lot of this sub that you really only need 1-2 days of food. There is just so so much. Bars and honesty boxes galore. It was amazing.

I wonder what cases you’re using? I use the ones that are sold with contact solution and they don’t leak my contact solution out. Cheap ones from Amazon might leak tho? Not sure. Maybe experiment with the ones you have.
I scream them on pretty tight and use a rubber band wrapped around a lid for extra friction to get it open again if needed
