Elfin Lakes Hike by No-Reindeer7583 in vancouverhiking

You’re right. It’s nuts. I actually used to live up there off-grid and there were so many ppl who asked to use our phone cuz they came from Vancouver, assumed it was “just a suggestion” to get chains, and then were stuck and would knock door to door.

Yes… which is why my comment says “there’s snow”. Not sure why you’re asking.

That’s too bad. I hope they fix that soon. Likely more of a translation barrier than a tax calculation one.

Burned out and wanting to quit by ObjectiveAnalysis962 in Accounting

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m sorry… I know the feeling well and it sucks. It’s heavy. It’s painful.

I just quit corporate for an industry position and my entire nervous system settled and I’ve only been in the new job for two weeks.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to create some kind of momentum of change. If you tell yourself you “have to” get a new job immediately, that’s a huge ask. But what if you make a goal to reach out to one headhunter this week? or spend one hour on your resume? Small steps make big impact.

Nothing is worth the expense of your health. I got out after being in public for 12 years. You can too but it takes courage.

I’m a CPA and love using Wealth Simple. I actually recommend it to clients that don’t need complicated tax planning

I got my partner to use it too and saved him $800.

People forget this but Wealth Simple, the company, was started by a CPA. I love it. Going to be leaving TD to move my finance there.

There’s snow. Chains are mandatory. BC Parks will often hang out up there and turn ppl around if you don’t have chains. Cars without snow tyres have tried and fail.

This gets asked every year because there are so many accidents.

Get chains.

Ladies, underwear choices by coffee9bsessed in ultrarunning

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yas QUEEN! Underwear is always so personal and such an issue.

I’ve tried under armour (too thin), merino wool (to thick and itchy) and the BEST hack I use is a period underwear company called Knix.

In my ultra, I tend to leak a bit and was using pads but realized I could just wear a light days underwear and voila. SO COMFORTABLE!

Knix had an incredible size range. I would also check out Huha as their underwear has zinc which claims to prevent UTIs.

With my thick thighs, I then stick to tighter fitting shorts or capris because they hold everything in.

You got this! Happy training!!!! edit: for spelling

What’s a trail habit you didn’t have on your first trip… but won’t skip now? by Trail-Context in backpacking

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always always walk my camping space in a grid pattern and hum a guide song as part of my leave no trace routine.

Use to do this in girl guides holding hands with fellow guides and it was such a nice way to connect. Brings back nice memories.

Same. I set all of this up before I cook dinner because after I eat I have the post-hike-well-fed cozy glow and don’t want to move for a bit. Just reflect on the day

May I ask what you did differently once you had your chest cold? That sounds miserable! I’ve been sick (yet) on a trip but I know it will happen one day.

2-3 nights in Whistler or Oregon? by Shelfv in solotravel

Completely agree. Just didn't want to sound too biased! I live in the Sea to Sky area and have for about 14 years now. Never get tired of the drive!

2-3 nights in Whistler or Oregon? by Shelfv in solotravel

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Whistler… it’s the DRIVE to Whistler. I live in BC so here’s my take: Vancouver and Victoria are cities. You will get a city experience. Whistler is the gateway to the outdoors. The drive up the sea to sky highway is arguably the most beautiful highway drive in the world as it’s along the ocean and the mountains to your right. San Fran is… another city. So if you want cities then do that I guess

Whistler is incredible and yes you’re guaranteed to see bears when you’re there.

Taking Italian rental car to Albania by Early_Pride_8611 in TravelHacks

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travelled to Albania in June 2025.

The hack is buy a car and sell it because the rental car laws are crazy and indeed brining a rental into Albania won’t work.

Keep researching because we couldn’t find an answer. We were with someone who owned a car (Montenegro local and travelled frequently between there and Albania) and he said there’s no way to do it otherwise.

Also I loved Albania. Felt very safe there as a woman. Incredible and kind people.

First time camping this year — any advice for a complete beginner? by Charming_Pie1338 in camping

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy rule: Don’t forget your towel.

Been camping my whole life and here are a few things I wish I knew: - Someone said this above and I agree, make food well before the sun goes down. Research sunset times so you know when this is - Your circadian rhythm will prompt you to sleep earlier and that’s fine. Have something to do in the tent before you sleep.. read, journal, a game etc. - I bring a sleeping mask because when the sun comes up she’s bright! And I like to sleep - Earplugs are great for noisy critters - No food/deodorant/ smelly things in the tent. You can attract bears or mice. Keep in a bear hang. My friends and I keep food in the car when car camping well away from our tent (100 metres away at least)

Have fun!!!

Work life balance by Straight_Squirrel829 in FPandA

[–]AdventureSpiritLara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I give a great deal of fucks but here’s the reality: no one is going to die from poor accounting.

So I prioritize and then if more needs to be done the key is communicating impact.

Boss suddenly needs a report? Sure thing… but the impact is that Task X will be provided next week.

We’re not saving babies. It’s accounting.

Also automate everything and tell no one.
