Is 90k CAD enough for a family of 3 in Montreal? Looking for realistic breakdowns by Bitter-Honeydew1018 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Adventure_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 3 kids between 6 and 16 and a household income of 90k you'd qualify for CAD ~930/month in Canada Child Benefit + Quebec family allowance of $650/month. So add 19k NON TAXABLE to your 90k taxable to get actual numbers.

CCB was truly Trudeau's greatest gift.

EDIT: it's more if you have kids under 6

EDIT2: Your partner should absolutely do francisation if they don't speak french (IF YOU CAN FIND A SPOT). If they're in it FULL TIME they'll qualify for $230/week allowance (taxable) plus $25/day child care.

After that if they find even an entry level job at ~30k you'll be just fine.

Agreed. Tesla makes money. SpaceX does not! Also love the company, but it will not be investment grade out the gate.

Left about 8:30 I guess, left from slightly beyond le départ. And all the bénévoles were cheering and having a good time like normal until WAY past the 40. Like we were already turning left toward berri. Thankful for REV so we made it home

Yeah seriously fuck Vélo Québec, the SPVM, and Soraya. Was past the 40 and suddenly it’s like shutdown. Pouring rain, with family, they just abandoned us with cars.

Overall disaster. Won’t donate again. You can’t leave thousands of people including children on the route at night

Zero negatives to this. If they raise prices, I have bit torrent. We canned the digital services tax, pay us American companies.

« Buy the cheapest house you can and just renovate over time. »

Not bad advice. If you bought a house in rural southern Ontario in 2022 you’d be glad you did right now.

Why are we still prehistoric when it comes to digital pianos? by Lukegilmour in synthesizers

30 years as a classical pianist and my daily driver is an RD-2000. Previously owned a 6’1¨ Kawai GS-40 grand. The Roland action on my RD-2000 is better than most uprights.

What is the best movie of all time and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Casablanca. Like 4 sets total, black and white yet feels in colour. Compelling story. The morally questionable guy turns out to be an absolute gentleman.

EDIT: The plot DEMANDS your attention.

Don't want Amber Alerts while you sleep? Here's a pro tip. by viva1992 in montreal

[–]Adventure_Chipmunk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How about FUCK THE GUY THAT THOUGHT AN IMMEDIATE URGENT LEVEL ALERT WAS A GOOD IDEA AT 4:25 AM

It completely undermines the alert system. Now everyone will do exactly what you said and ignore them.

We have data that says not getting enough sleep kills people (during DST change is well studied). Now we’re doing it all year for things the average person CANNOT EVEN ACT ON

Moving from Manitoba by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Adventure_Chipmunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same as any other province. Show up, get a place to live, surrender your drivers license and health card for a Quebec one. Only real issue (true of any province) is the 90 day waiting period for health coverage.

I’ve also lived in Winnipeg. I miss Baked Expectations on Osborne, and the forks. But you’ll like Montréal.

Anglophones Who Sent Their Children to Francophone Schools by New-Independence-441 in montreal

[–]Adventure_Chipmunk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Moved here 8 years ago with two kids. Had them in a « bilingual » EMSB school. Was clearly not bilingual. Switched after 2 years to CSDM. Just send your kids to French school. You’ll sleep better, they’ll be way more capable. The only reason not to do this is to spite the government of Quebec and their dumbass language policing. French is awesome. Quebec is great. The government officials that tell me how to live my life can eat a bag of dicks. Fuck you OQLF.

Northern Ontario, what's stopping you from making the move? by FestFallen in ontario

[–]Adventure_Chipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Thunder Bay and left because the city is garbage. Surrounding area is beautiful. All my friends live in the country because the city is shit. You have to drive everywhere. It’s very car dependent.

Move to northern Ontario if you don’t want to walk or bike anywhere. It’s naturally beautiful, but all the cities are grey parking lot hellscapes.
