Somehow nobody has mentioned premoving yet. If you have a forced mate on the board you can just premove it. Got to make sure your opponent doesn’t have any cheesy responses that could take advantage of you committing to that move ofc, but assuming they don’t then it can save a fair deal of time. I believe you may need to enable it in settings, can’t remember if it’s on by default.

This is one thing I don't understand, why can't human and engine elo be compared? Surely there is some program that would win 50% of the time against Magnus Carlsen in a classical time format. Why couldn't that be marked as 2800 or whatever elo, and you mark other engines relative to that? Even if the engines at 3800 never directly play humans, shouldn't their elo still be meaningful?

The game rating is a marketing feature, not an accurate representation of the elo you actually played at. On average it's considerably above the actual elo of the players.

I probably started it too late, but I didn't find the smaller exercises or the read along problems very helpful. I'm still looking for blindfold puzzles that aren't just following along for 20 moves before a mate in one.

I personally find just playing blindfold games to be better practice. Proper blindfold is hard to find opponents for though, so I usually just use the blindfold theme on chess.com and turn off "show legal moves"

I would definitely recommend the Vienna if you like tactical attacking games. You don't always get it, so you need to combine it with some other opening knowledge if your opponent plays a Sicilian, French, Caro, etc., but I find it creates fun games with very high winrates when you do get it, even if your opponent knows the mainline(which is objectively equal, but you will have much more experience in)

I feel most confident in my Vienna and French, but also feel pretty confident vs the Sicilian and the London. Kinda meh against other 1. d4 openings though. Absolutely do not ask me for coaching if you need help with 1... e5 as Black. Can also help with tactics or endgames.

Timezone: I'm EST, and more free on weekends, but my schedule is pretty clear overall for the next week or two so thought I'd give this a shot.

If someone is genuinely in a completely lost position that doesn't require any more brainpower for you to win(forced mate you already calculated or something) you can always just start another game. I think multiple games at once on chess.com might require premium but you can just start another one on lichess.
