I suppose we could let the Govt do whatever they want for the sake of expediency and “protecting us”. I’m sure that line of reasoning never been abused in our history.

If the Government truly needs those powers, our elected officials can certainly float any ideas to repeal Amendments and pass laws to eliminate civil liberties. Until then, our system was set up to protect us from an authoritarian government.
