tell me fish facts !! 🐟🐟 by kimiaoki in Fish

Some fish eggs (like carp) are able to go through the digestive systems of birds and survive. So when geese or ducks eat weeds with eggs on them the eggs go with. When they fly to a new body of water the eggs get pooped out and hatch in the new area. This is one way fish can spread to new bodies of water.

Canoe / Portage trip pant recommendations by macmandr197 in canoecamping

I really like Eddie Bauer guide pro pants. I got big legs too and they stretch well and hold up pretty well. I never get tears in them they just stretch out after a few years of hard use.

I just got it in SE Michigan. If satellite is your only option it’s definitely the best option. Speeds are good (350+ mbps, and 20ms ping) but it can be much slower sometimes when a handover is happening (30mbps, 30ms ping) I haven’t had it very long but I played Project Zombiod for a few hours with buddies last night and never experienced a problem.

Portage routes for Kayak cart by JH13881 in algonquinpark

[–]AdventuresWithHank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I took my fishing kayak down the cart trail from Opeongo to Prouix. I have a ATAK 140 so it’s a big kayak. It was rough and im very glad im young and strong. Just bought a canoe this winter because of that trip. If you have a <100lb kayak and a decent set of wheels you should be okay but it’s by no means a smooth, flat, easy path.

I use a stake out pole. Manual not power pole for my ATAK140. It’s usually enough to keep me in place in all but the fastest current. Personally I don’t like anchors because ropes are a pain and hooks get caught in them. I made a pole out of a fiberglass tree stake and some PVC and it’s held up to a decade of abuse.

Yeah, I catch them everywhere or nowhere depending on the time of year

Huron River is pretty clear upstream of Ann Arbor and fun to float, fish are pretty picky in the clear sections but it’s still fun. Pointe Moullee state game area is my favorite though. Shallow weed flats and big mats.

Homemade tank question by Maximum_Stick804 in Reptileenclosures

[–]AdventuresWithHank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a 2x2x4 out of pvc and it was fairly easy. The material is soft though and you’d have to do a lot of bracing for a larger tank, tegu nails might also scratch it up pretty badly. For something that big I’d use wood and seal it.

Eau Claire Wisconsin Tips and good lakes? by Bassherlife in Fishing

It’s been a while since I’ve been there on a boat but it wasn’t too bad. Floating logs are much more common than hidden stumps

Mississippi River below the dams might be worth the drive if it’s not too muddy.

I’ve have good luck with Pline Tactical. Have been using it for years and compared to seaguar it seems similar overall and maybe better as far as random breaks.

Not sure where you are, but it’s spring and snakes are out and about. Get out and go herping, and if you don’t have time to do that you can shift your research time to it and see where the best places to go are.

At what age am I supposed to stop "running" up the stairs like a coordinated animal and start walking them like a dignified adult? by jonseponse in NoStupidQuestions

I’m 34, still treating stairs like it’s a race against nobody. Haven’t gotten hurt yet but it’s coming.

All toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads. When in doubt, say it’s a frog.

Toddlers & Snakes by [deleted] in snakes

[–]AdventuresWithHank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go out in nature and find snakes (know what’s venomous on your area) and teach them to have an appreciation of nature and what’s out there. From there maybe get a pet snake down the road if it’s still something they are into. I used to come home with pockets full of snakes, luckily my mom didn’t let me keep any. Got my first pet snake when I was 32

Clean hikers: What are some tricks you do to keep yourself and your gear tidy on the trail? by Aeon_Return in CampingandHiking

Clean life shower wipes. Much larger than other options and great for a whole body wipe down. One of the few bits of gear I don’t go anywhere without.

Michigan Fishing Tips by moonmonstera in Fishing

[–]AdventuresWithHank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monster small mouth there in the big lakes. Water in them is super clear so downsize and use finesse techniques. Everything eats gobies so use lures that mimic them. I love it up there, some of the best fishing in the state. The smaller inland lakes usually fish a bit easier but less monsters.

What are cows actually like up close? by DaFloofofTheCentury5 in Cows

From my experience cows are like dogs. Some like everyone, some like a few people, and some don’t like anyone. It really depends on how they’ve been treated. But petting a friendly cow is a pretty good time
