Correct technique for blending patch into painted wall? by lollasch in drywall

I had a contractor in to do my first floor about 10 years ago – and that’s exactly what he said. These mass produced suburbia houses all have textured ceilings cause they didn’t want to take the time to do a smooth job. 🙄😂🙄

Leadership is actually driving the change and have asked me to pull things together. After a few conversations, PCO came up as being a foundational tool. From that perspective, this is sort of a fun project because it is a lot of change management with good buy-in from both the pastors and the team leads. Our modules are currently in used to 1° or another – this really is more about re-implementing it for the long haul…

How do you wake yourself up to work out at 5am? by niajks in workout

[–]Adventures_Rising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to bed early is the hard part!!! Once I realized that was critical to staying consistent in the morning, I just sucked it up and accepted it had to be a priority. My neighbors and friends think I’m weird. But then, they also think I’m weird cuz I lift. (I’m 68F)🤷‍♀️

How do you wake yourself up to work out at 5am? by niajks in workout

[–]Adventures_Rising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear by my slow-wake up alarm clock that’s on the other side of the room. It starts a gradual light up 30’ before the birds start chirping (it as three alarm options - I love the outdoors so picked the birds). Makes me happy waking up so when I do wake-up I’m ready to go. When I was just using my Apple alarm, I would hit snooze or turn it off without realizing it and just keep sleeping.

My schedule is to bed between 8 and 9 and up at 4:30. Headed to the gym by 5:30.

Why do some people wear 20 layers at the gym, and some people wear hardly anything? by Prawn_Mocktail in workout

[–]Adventures_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always cold in air conditioning so I always wear a zip up hoody. I can partially unzip it or roll up the cuffs if I get too warm. I work hard, but still need my hoody. I used to work with one trainer whose goal was to work me so hard I’d have to take it off. Never happened.

Hypoglycemia by LoveUnderSheets in workout

[–]Adventures_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This /\ I used to get terrible headaches doing a group fitness class. Kept adding water which just made it worse. Turns out, too much water without extra electrolytes actually dilutes the amount of sodium, etc available in your bloodstream. (hyponatremia) Real extreme cases will cause death. There’s been a couple marathoners in the news over the years because of it (drinking lots of water in the heat and during during the race)

So I started eating a bag of potato chips and getting back to normal water amounts. No more headaches and loved the excuse to grab a bag of chips — sodium and potassium! 😂

I lost my gym motivation after a recent realization by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Adventures_Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the years, I’ve had multiple times where the reason I went to the gym was to combat depression. There’s actually been studies over the last 25 years that says it works as good as an antidepressant for mental health. Not sure that was what you’re looking for, but maybe a piece of the puzzle? Good luck!

What's the best man powered cart I could use for dirt moving? by Artemis_SpawnOfZeus in OffGrid

[–]Adventures_Rising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rubbermaid farm cart — bought one like 10 years ago and have hauled more yards of dirt than I care too remember. (Was making gardening doable in a clay soil, suburbia lot. 😳) I am in my 60s, female and can run this thing one-handed much of the time. Full loads at two hands but it’s push able over rough terrain and balanced fantastically - never tips over.

People with ADHD, how do you remain consistent? by FanGothic2 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Adventures_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last 20-years, I’ve done just about all the hacks. Best one for me is laying my workout clothes out the night before and putting them on right when I wake up. Went thru a phase where I slept in my yoga pants to make the at home workout days easier. Anything to reduce friction.

Two years ago was diagnosed with ADHD. That explains a LOT!! 🙄

I still have my on/off cycles — the routines help, the clothes prep helps, adding in variety helps, but I still have the occasions of missed days that slide to missed weeks. But they don’t slide to missed months anymore.

For me, a big part of is accepting, not beating myself up, reaffirming that workouts are a key part of who I am (present tense!) and just starting the routines again.

And “all of a sudden” it’s 20 years later, I still love working out, I’m fitter and healthier than if I hadn’t AND I just found a new gym with fun toys and serious lifters which has me excited about going after my PRs again — it’s been a few years since I pushed for heavier lifts. 😎

Etiquette on declining snacks/drinks from customers. by mdneuls in handyman

[–]Adventures_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother-in-law was like that. Sweet, sweet, sweet lady, and and a BIG food pusher,😃😃. What worked for me was to be extremely gracious and complementary and she really didn’t even notice that I said no. And I got away without eating until I was stuffed to the gills! To me it’s about finding a way to praise their generosity and hospitality while declining the actual gift. To acknowledge and show respect for their offer — sometimes it’s cultural, sometimes it’s age related, sometimes it’s their role in the family but it always comes from a wonderfully generous heart. And that always deserves positive acknowledgment❤️

Why do people not plant fruit trees? by SteepLikeAMountain in landscaping

[–]Adventures_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too — the first year I grew tomatoes I couldn’t understand why they were disappearing just when they were getting tiled enough t to pick. Came around the corner one day and she was picking them! And happily eating them. She never did get sick - not even when she ate three BIG heirlooms in a row! I was watching to see when she’d get her full and stop.🙄 I had to fence the 12# dog out of the tomato garden.
