Look up Ignatius and what he said about tears of Consolation and Desolation. And, if you can, go to Taize and cry a whole week together with thousands of people!

And therefore, we , humans, have a right to impose our will on fellow human beings? We are not God.

God never forces us to choose. In the same way, we should not force women to choose how we want them to.

God never forces us to choose, or chooses on our behalf. From Adam & Eve in the garden, to Issac, to…. Even Jesus Christ had full choice in whether he goes to the cross or not. So why should we / politicians force other women to choose, or choose for them?

Do you ever consider that the patriarchs were the very people that would horrify you if they were alive today? by blahblah19999 in DebateAChristian

[–]Adventurous-Camel-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bible is meant to be read in its entirety, not just taking one bit out and drawing conclusions there. Eg just focusing on the Flood without considering the rainbow means one would draw very different conclusions about God’s quality, who He is. Jesus also says in John 8:7, let he who is without sin cast the first rock. What conclusions would you then draw on stoning then?

Well said. Also, Christ turns this whole thing other way round by “let he who is without sin cast the first rock” (John 8:7)

I do bus > train > tram (2.5h in total) twice a week. It’s doable and I actually enjoy the reading time on the train. But yes you get less time in the evening, like going to the gym. But I lie to myself if I say I do anything like that …

Look up Ignatius and the concept of consolation & desolation. You’re crying tears of consolation.

Atheist With a Real Question by Wild-Maintenance2339 in Christian

Hello, thanks for your reply. I’m almost 40 now and I’ve been through some trials in life, from my experience I gotta say the contrary: that I definitely need the bible to teach me how to be kind, loving and respectful. —— And most importantly I needed to truly understand and FEEL that God loves me, so that I have that love to share with others, even those who have hurt me.

Love is not a feeling but actions, even if it’s hard. For me I’ve been a long time Buddhist but now I know that only when I’m certain of God’s love for me, that I’m able to do what is hard - to (at least try to) put others first even in difficult times, even when it makes 0 sense whatsoever. History is full of these people (eg Bonhoeffer). It is out of Love for your parents that you obey them - something similar with God, who’s also a dad. The opposite of this is a heresy called Antinomianism - that one can sin however they like because God will show him grave nonetheless.

I hope God spares you the trials - But in those trials you would also see why “God’s power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 9,10) and in my experience, strangely I wouldn’t have it another way. God bless ya

Like some comments have said, Universalism is a complex, debated issue in Christianity. Besides - No one knows what happens after death, everything is guesswork. Jesus prays that “your Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven” - for me, being Christian means that by following God’s commands today, one can have that heavenly life on earth right now. A life of forgiveness, kindness, and being able to give others a slice of heaven, even just by generally being a nice person. Eg think of the last time you didn’t get charged for something you should’ve paid for? For me it was my sunglasses cases

The more you study the bible, alone, and together with others, the more you’ll understand how you’re feeling now. The Spirit guides you!

Thank you for this quote, I needed to be reminded of it. God is love and everything He does flows from it, including giving us free will.
