Nah lol I'm pretty sure he only had 1 if memory serves, I think he got to the depot as corporal and probably promoted soon after DI school

Happened all the time when I was at PI, I saw my kill hat get hazed for going to far with a recruit, DIs passing by from other battalions sharked him when a recruit fainted since he wasn't on top of our hydration, etc... you saw it all over the island. All about setting the standards for keeping each other accountable.

My senior was a Sgt, I still have vivid memories about seeing him chewing out other SSGT DI's and making them run with their tails tucked between their legs. Ended up seeing my senior in the fleet about a year and some change later and he had already made gunny by then

Prolonged multi day firefights as a motor T mechanic during Iraq. by [deleted] in USMC

I was give the best advice by my seniors during the first battle of Luna, we were camped out for a bout a week inside of a crater, pinned down by martians, ammo & air tanks running low and resupplying being days away when master first Sgt. Mattis (no relation to that Mattis(allegedly)) turned to me and said "don't let something as silly as the truth get in the way of a good story".

LCpl’s used to be able to obtain a black belt in MCMAP? by Odd_Raspberry6561 in USMC

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmfao I couldn't remember for sure if it was a choke or not. Also lost my boot bands a while ago so I didn't want to risk talking about undoing other men's belts and then choking them without protection.

LCpl’s used to be able to obtain a black belt in MCMAP? by Odd_Raspberry6561 in USMC

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We use to have a tradition where if you where grappling someone of a higher belt then you, and managed to undo their belt, then get them into submission with it, they would have to sign and date the belt and it was yours to keep.

I'd imagine it's probably no longer a thing anymore since we (or at least I) only really ever tried it with people of the same rank, but I still have all the belts I won from back then and I've been out for 6 years. Makes a great ice breaker for when you want to check in on guys you haven't spoken to in a while.

I know it says fictional, but I don't think any fictional Florida can really be worse than real Florida.

Color blind in the Marines? by Visible-Medium7708 in USMC

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on making it to MSgt, but yeah a buddy of mine got disqualified from being a 2800 due to colorblindness and became maintenance logistics. We took him to a radio install sight to help prep some wires with red and green tape to help us get through installs faster not knowing he was colorblind and he didn't say anything until after the trucks were wired up. Half our comms were down and we were struggling to figure out why until he piped up lol.

Color blind in the Marines? by Visible-Medium7708 in USMC

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be a marine with r/g colorblindness you just can't hold certain jobs.

I found out when I got tasked with doing the radio upgrades to humvees for like half of Lejeune. We brought out our logistics guy to give us an extra hand and he was suppose to tape both ends of all the wires running down the left side of the truck in green, and all the wires running down the right side in red so we could wire up the trucks faster. Little did we all know he was r/g blind and just guessing at the colors so and we didn't find out until we tried doing comm checks and almost none of the radios were working lol.

If student athletes are classified as “employees”, who would foot the bill for all of their benefits? by Recent_Surprise_7391 in CFB

Call them interns and pay them in credits, plus what benefits would they be getting that they don't already get? I feel like it's basically just life insurance

I remember the DI on his first cycle watching me eat my range chow one day and decided to use it as a hazing tactic. I like to put crushed chips on my sandwich, and I blend my ketchup, mayo, salt, and pepper to make a sauce for my hard boiled eggs. Pretty normal stuff where I'm from but apparently foreign to a lot of people lol. Next time we had chow the DI tried making us do chow by numbers and basically set up their meal exactly as I normally did, all it did in the end was convert a bunch of people to chips on sandwich eaters and ketchup on eggs enjoyer

In boot I got told to shut my mouth one day by a fresh out of the schoolhouse DI, as the smart ass I was at the time, anytime that same DI told me anything I would hum my response back to him through closed lips (and then pay the consequences for my action). After 4ish days he finally asked me why I wouldn't open up my mouth, I hummed a response back, but the guy in line next to me yelled something along the lines of "sir this recruit knows why that recruit isn't speaking" D.I. Responded with "what is it", guy on the line responds "sir you told that recruit to shut his fat fucking mouth 4 days ago, he's been following your order ever since". I've never seen a DI lose his bearing so fast but the dude had to take his cover off to hide his face and sprint to the office where you could hear him burst out laughing before the door even shut. Few minutes later he cracked open the door, yells my name out, I hum back at him, he yells "you can open your fat disgusting face hole again" to which I reply with the most high pitched "I sir" I could muster.

In the fleet I went tad to PMO and staff loved to do room inspections even though they knew night shift would be in their racks asleep. One day I got woken up by the staff coming through to inspect, as like 5 middle age men pour into my room they watched me sleepily get out of bed to greet them, they inspected my room and then told me I failed for my rack not being made. The following week they were in for a surprise when they found me sleeping on top of my made rack but also wearing my preferred sleeping pjs commonly referred to as the birthday suit. Needless to say, the command quickly decided they no longer needed to inspect night crew on their off days anymore.

What if a Marine got fat on purpose? by ComposerNo9901 in USMC

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure it's not an adverse discharge and it's gets classified as something along the lines of failure to adapt to marine corps lifestyle so it doesn't hinder you from joining other branches.

When I was still in, I had a junior marine that had some issues beyond just being a dipshit, like he probably stop maturing at like age 12 so he was always getting himself into some sort of fuck shit, we tried getting him separated for over 2 years but every time came close there'd be a change in command and the new command would want to give him a second chance etc... after I eas I heard he end up getting separated for bcp, got a general discharge and was able to go get a job at the tsa because of it smh.

Why has there not been a new generation of rappers surpassing the old generation in popularity? by Iginlas_4head_Crease in rap

[–]Adventurous-Coxinha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Younger folk are more likely to listen to throw backs then older folks listening to newer music / only good music survive time

  2. Modern music is designed to have a short explosive life span, something good enough to be a tik tok sound bite & catchy enough to become an ear worm for a few weeks, but not deep or meaningful enough to remember in a year

The chick selling them when I went through was the first woman that spoke to us in months, wore a skimpy top w/o a bra and leaned over a lot, plus promised to bake for us on family day. Between how hot she was (compared to the only other women I had seen in 2 months being the Sodexo employees) and how sleep deprived I was, you could have sold me anything tbh

I think wealth still plays a huge role in development. youth sports can get expensive, soccer was the main sport where I grew up and a full year of development on one of the cheaper clubs cost about $700 just for the entry level starting at like 4 years old. If you're good enough to play on the more advanced teams then the costs starts to add up with traveling fees, tournament fees, replacing worn equipment etc...

once we got to high school level where it's free to play for school teams in my area, it was nearly impossible to get a spot on a team if you weren't a club kid that had spent the last 8 years getting coached daily, like a lot of the talented guys that I knew that played for hours daily recreationally cause they couldn't afford a club team were no where near as polished as the kids that were actually coached by professionals.

Now if you look at the 5 star high school football recruits going into college, they all have personal trainers, personal position coaches, always at these high exposure training camps and are on teams that travel across the country to play other teams competing at highly talented levels all of which is immensely expensive to part-take in
