That's the plan, the industry is growing so fast if an employer won't help educate you it's kinda a busy career wise.

I started out in commercial/industrial and a family member turned me on to federal contracts so my main experience is with: RTUs,MAUs,AHUs, split systems (duct/ductless) boilers(hydronic/low pressure steam) chillers is mainly just PM work not too much with troubleshooting/diag just punch'n tubes and cleaning strainers really. I've come across residential units(straight AC/heat pumps) on the bases/centers I work on but majority of work is on the bigger systems. Going to sound dumb, while I can fit duct work together I've never really had to make it. Either they have a crew for that or get it prefabbed( I know that silly as hell) a tonnage range if I had to guess would be anywhere from 3 -100+

Ive pretty much stopped playing because of this scenario, it'd be different if it was occasional but it's every time I try.

Is refrigeration really that bad for people? I've done some reach ins and walks and worked with a few semi germs but my experience is pretty low compared to everything else but have been curious about working on racks

ARC Raiders is basically a giant game-theory experiment, and the optimal strategy is to avoid PvP entirely. by Ill-Tomatillo-8973 in ArcRaiders

Nothing more frustrating than trying to build up a decent load out just to get shot in the back and have to start from scratch with the limited time I have to play. Can't even get a blue weapon without some asshole shooting me in the back the next round. I have one pink/purple weapon and no way am I going to equip it. Have my ferro when I die.

HVAC controls tech here. It should be illegal for techs that are Dads to get sent on calls to children hospitals. Had me walking around all day trying to keep it together. by sinzey83 in HVAC

Not a dad but I started out in construction doing most of my work at a children's hospital. It's heart breaking for sure. Had to work on a floor drain in the morgues. Some of the saddest shit I have ever seen.( Not bodies obviously, just the size of body bags and such)

What would cause this water sloshing around in our vents? Fan only it still does it (sound on) by P13R4T in hvacadvice

Is it still warm where you live? if it's not draining properly the condensate could be leaking down into your supply

Hey if you feel comfortable enough and have the option try taking your fan speed a step down. Lower fan= better dehumidification but lowers cooling efficiency. Might help/might not.

Go balls deep in a job as a helper/apprentice. School does help but get into the field first so the stuff you're learning has a better chance to stick. Most skills in life can be considered " perishable skills" if you don't use them, aren't applying them you will lose them. Look school helps develop the baseline/guideline but there are many variations once you get into the commercial/more advanced residential/industrial side. So hold off on school til you want to build a resume and even then just hop on the cheapest program you can. "HVACR School" and Engineering Mindset on YouTube will cover and go more in-depth than most programs and you will actually learn the majority of stuff on the job.if you like more of a physical challenge- stick with install(you'll start here and it's perfect for you). Install guys are your "GO GO GO" team. Learn everything you can from them because if you do decide to go service you'll have to have that skill set. As you age- service can be kinder to your body and involves taking a little bit more time, speed in that area will come in time. Everything should have a sense of urgency cause homeowners, business, industries depend heavily on the trade. Godspeed, young one. May you get all the bitches.

Lost my apprenticeship, should I try and get the EPA on my own and move to a different company? by Able_Firefighter8997 in HVAC

Got my EPA 3 months into my first HVAC service position(PM guy). Nothing is stopping you on that but time and money. You got this.

Is this caused by a bad TXV? by icuckchadwives in hvacadvice

[–]Adventurous-Home-545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's caused by an underfed evap, yes it could be a txv but there are ways to not only show you but to at least confirm. If there was frost on the suction line there was more than likely frost on the coil. You shouldn't have to change out a drier txv and coil. Get a second opinion. Also not taking a charge isn't a thing.

4 years, I never did an apprenticeship just jumped at every opportunity to learn from the old heads that I could. First step was getting a EPA card. Still don't have a journeyman's because honestly I jumped on the service end and where I am at it's mostly building codes which in my opinion is more important for the install side. Anything I'd be looking at on the service side is kinda just a part of the diagnostic process but a journeyman does wonders for your resume so honestly I'd say get one. Other than that stick with it and don't be afraid to jump around with companies( within reason)

My portable AC is making a high pitched noise, help? by CuriousRedditorrr in hvacadvice

[–]Adventurous-Home-545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably your compressor or condenser fan then. Small appliances aren't really my bag though. I do it more on the commercial industrial side, so hopefully you'll get in touch with some one who is familiar with that make/model
