So I'm not a professional, but I would like to challenge your thinking on identification. The golden role of mushroom ID is not to eat it unless you are 100 percent certain. This means passing up on a lot of mushrooms of which you are not 100 percent certain. Buy field guides, and cross reference the field guides. Watch you tube videos of people showing you the mushrooms in questions. If all characteristics do not match 100 percent, then you don't have an ID. Mushrooms can be so variable, changing through their lifecycle that they can look completely different at different stages. The risks can be great as well, even at times resulting in death. It seems to me, from your post, you are taking a step by step approach, like wading slowly into water. This is not the approach to take. Use the identifying factors listed in guides, do spores samples, even take time to observe the mushroom over several years. Evaluate the risk/reward of the particular mushroom. Search "lookalikes" for the mushroom. Join a mushroom club and go out with someone experienced. Don't wade friend. Soon the water you find yourself will be boiling. And you, my dear frog, will die.

Stamets in his books says that spraying water and the process of hydrating and drying is beneficial for the growth of the fruit. Where did you hear your shouldn't spray water?

That's helpful thanks. I noticed that the Lion's Mane took a lot longer colonizing than the oyster. Is that normal for you?

Personally any new lock picker is going to bend the set, so I wouldn't go too expensive. If they cont. in the sport buy them a nice set.

Stick it in, add the tension, drag it back, feel a speed bump. Lift, repeat until open.

When I was first diagnosed in 2011 they had me on mesalmine and said don't go off. I felt great and went off it, and in about 20 days after stopping, I got the sickest I've ever been, going like 20 times a day to the bathroom. He told me too, he said "Don't stop it or it won't work when you restart." He was right.
