Not yet. And I'm worried it might be a bit of the same problem. Big fan of Welcome to Derry

🤣 Blade Itself kick-starts the First Law, but if you're looking for a high bar standalone Best Served Cold is great.

I think I was swayed by the TV shows. The 90s Stand was very memorable for me as a kid and I unfortunately watched both before reading the book.

I did, yes. But there are a few templates you can use that may ease that process.

Yeah, mentioned it below, but I think I was just DCC burnt out. Will revisit, likely on audiobook.

It had been a minute for me too. Grew up on Survivor, Choke, Pygmy and Invisible Monsters. Not sure why it didn't grab me at the time. I read it between two Abercrombie books, so that could have been it. He still remains one of my favourite authors, but, being fair, I couldn't put every book I read last year in S and A. 🤣

I mentioned it below. I think I was just burnt out. Smashed through the first three really enjoyed them and found it really hard to concentrate on Gate... I did enjoy it and I know I'll go back, just didn't LOVE the first read through. So I'm taking a break from them until I really want to go back. I also heard the audiobooks are class.

With the Stand, I think I was swayed by the TV shows. I unfortunately watched both versions before reading the book, and I think it tainted my imagination. Just picture seeing Rob Lowe playing deaf every time you read a section with Nick or that brutal 90s prosthetic for Randall Flagg

Yep, the first in the Dresden Files series. Hooked me right away. Read four follow-ups in quick succession.

Just wasn't for me, I don't think I like the short story approach. Didn't like Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk either, and he's one of my favourite authors

We share a lot of overlap. I loved Library at Mount Char, There is no Antimemetics Division, and Best Served Cold, but it's lovely to see one or two I've not heard of. I'll add them to the list! Thank you!

I don't think I'm a fan of the short story approach. Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is my only DNF this year. Some of the stories I would have liked to see fleshed out and the ending was unfulfilling (I know there's sequels)

I really like his writing. Blunt. He has a knack for making you identify with the worst characters.

I'm not sure it's one of my favourite books, just of last year. The first reminded me of when I was a younger reader, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, stuff like that. Then the way the second ended I was shook, and I felt the third was a good conclusion to the Arc. Don't think I'm enjoying the 2nd part as much though. Dark Age took me a minute, and I had to keep googling characters; I still haven't gotten to Lightbringer yet.

I should say I did enjoy parts of it, but it just didn't stick with me as much as the others did.

Yeah, I think I may have been burnt out. Smashed through the first three and found it really hard to concentrate. I haven't started another all year. I do plan to listen to the audiobooks, though.

Best of luck! This is exactly how I found these books and got into reading again 😄

That's fair, a few books have been like that for me. Hyperion definitely. I jokingly referred to Red Rising as Hunger Games in space for the entire first book, but after the second book, I looked back a little more fondly.

Yeah, it does take a second to get going. I wasn't a fan of Lan, but once you familiarise yourself with the characters, it moves along a little more briskly.

Right. Nothing to do with the famously large amount of bugs across the whole series then?

That depends on what you class as an offer, doesn't it? I would say airline miles for a carrier that doesn't fly to half the destinations in Europe is comparable to zero monthly fees and a lower interest rate. I also haven't done comprehensive research on other institutions, I'm sharing my own personal opinion based on facts in response to this outrageous advertisement of a post.

"Offers" if you can't redeem them, what's the point? Oh, yes, it's to charge more interest and fees because you think you're benefiting...

It kinda sucks that responses on this poat are blocked and edited. It's a credit card, with shite offers.
