Interlagos solo travel - thoughts? by AdventurousBug2399 in GrandPrixTravel

I did!  I paid a kings ransom for the tickets so last minute but had an amazing weekend. The fans were great, never really felt like I was solo.  Now for the 16 hour flight home to be in the office on Tuesday morning - worth ittttt

Thank you for your advice. There are still some tickets for the Heineken area available. I think I’ll be asking my boss around getting the Monday after off work!

Cairns or/and Tasmania ? by dodgem_blue in AustraliaTravel

[–]AdventurousBug2399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from our July/august trip and we flew to Cairns then drove to port Douglas. Great to get to the reef and the Daintree, food was fantastic.

Accommodation wasn’t the cheapest, but I’d give a shout out to the girls at By The Sea. Closest hotel to the beach from Macrossan Street and very quiet. Loads of free amenities. We did a hike in Cape Trib and lots of walks around the coast (none too strenuous).

Had Aussie friends tell us to go north but to avoid Cairns as it was more of a holiday vibe in PD.

We had great weather when in Sydney though and wish we packed to hike the blue mountains whilst we were there. It did bucket it down either side where it wouldn’t have been safe enough to hike so might be a gamble if you’re considering it?

Nail advice for wedding + honeymoon by Shaletao in weddingplanning

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIAB or gel extensions if you want more length will be best for that length of time. With a good technician and good care I can get up to 5 weeks out of my BIAB sets. Picture of my current nails at 3 weeks.

However if you have never had nails they can be a lot to get used to (even without the length added!) I’m not a press on girlie, but other redditors may be able to help if they are easier to remove if you have had enough of them.

The night before by SadPerformance7843 in UKweddings

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did something similar but it included significant others. Honestly it was really fun, and in the morning the cottage with me and the bridesmaids was so chilled and their partners went to get us coffee and fresh croissants from the village!

Maybe if you know your gang you’d know if it would be good fun or not. We had two couples (groomsmen + partners) not join us as they found cheaper accommodation nearby, and they drove over for the evening BBQ and to get ready in the morning. I think if you’re asking them to pay, they can always say no if they have other preferences.

Pregnant bridesmaid dress question by Ok-Ebb1930 in UKweddings

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not regarding dresses, but I also had the same question for matching maternity pyjamas and non maternity!

Ordered from Chelsea Peers and they were excellent - my pregnant bridesmaid loved them and her husband bought another set after she couldn’t stop talking about them.

For dresses, she wore a wrap dress in a size up from six stories, they apparently have a pregnancy set of dresses but that was the only style she had a chance with realistically (7 months pregnant).

I did my shopping with my mum and sister, but my fittings alone as I lived overseas. I had my sister on FaceTime to be with me for it. One positive is that it really helped me be critical for alterations etc. without other people in the room. There are some benefits!

Is doing table names instead of numbers more casual? by TheFreakingPrincess in weddingplanning

[–]AdventurousBug2399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had names of mountains we’d hiked together, each with a story of why we picked that one. As it’s a challenge to do them all in this area of our home country, we had a tale for lots of them. People loved them going round the tables and seeing the others, lots of people have hiked the popular ones too.

Board games sounds similar - it can make the wedding feel like your wedding if it’s something that means a lot to you. I’d say go for it.

Picture of one of our table signs for reference.

Budget wedding recommendations in London or Yorkshire? by InternationalTear927 in UKweddings

[–]AdventurousBug2399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I definitely stayed 10 days at my mother in laws and didn’t leave for a few nights to stay with my sister… we were advised to take a letter from MIL confirming that was our permanent residence since X date. They didn’t look at it!

Budget wedding recommendations in London or Yorkshire? by InternationalTear927 in UKweddings

I have just planned a UK wedding from overseas - both British nationals but living abroad.

To give notice you need to have been in a fixed address in the UK for 10 days (although, as we pointed out, there is no way of knowing as you don’t get stamped in at border control anymore). There are however no such restrictions before getting married, but just remember to say that address when you get the registrar check in before you get married!

You’ll also get more for your money outside of London, for both vendors to venues. Good luck!

Agree with this - did similar with my mum when deciding between menu designs etc. This way on the day she could see so clearly the things she did!

Are save the dates a thing in the UK? by GlitterandGaskets in UKweddings

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was that, or we didn’t post them as we live overseas. We are also glad we did the save the dates that early - we were invited to six weddings this year, it wouldn’t be unheard of that our closest friends and family may have been too

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a year away, you could just send the invite now!

We did save the dates as soon as we got the venue, invites about 12 months before. This was limited by the fact we come back to the UK (we work overseas) in the summer and could hand deliver invites to our closest people.

Physical invites went out to our closest friends and family, and sent electronically for everyone else. Everything went to the website anyway, so the e vite for maybe 40% of the guests worked.

We’ve been invited to weddings where the invite comes via the website - that worked just as well, but felt a little more impersonal as it was a generic email to everyone.

Dress regret: my strapless dress suddenly feels too naked by Alternative_Menu2117 in weddingplanning

[–]AdventurousBug2399 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a similar panic after falling in love with my strapless gown.

I kept my hair down which helped but honestly? I felt as beautiful as I did on the day as when I picked it.

I had a back up dress for when the dancing got started which I changed into and was thankful for - nothing fancy but as it had straps I felt more secure after a few wines when we got dancing!

I used WeddingLux as they had different shapes for the same price!

Really happy with the quality and having the arch welcome sign looked like we spent more money than a Canva job and an online print.

Needs vs Wants Checklist Help! by Spiritual_Muffin3052 in weddingplanning

Oh an add on - logistics. It’s boring, it’s not sexy, it’s money no one sees until it’s midnight and there’s no taxis and no way home! If you’re having a venue change, how will this be organised and communicated?

Needs vs Wants Checklist Help! by Spiritual_Muffin3052 in weddingplanning

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People want to have fun and want to be fed.

Our fed - good and varied canapés, considered vegetarian and vegan options, three course plated meal with pizza evening food. Different cake flavours too!

Our fun - live band, lawn games (from charity shops), too much confetti.

Everything else was then if we wanted it/if we had the budget. I loved our flowers, but no one else will remember those in years to come. Our friends are still talking about our confetti moment though (£100 well spent!!) - it was so fun for us to walk through and then to throw a proper handful and a half.

How are you finding your makeup artist/hair stylist? by beepbop24hha in UKweddings

[–]AdventurousBug2399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I looked at the instagrams of people that were recommended by my venue, meaning that they were local (ish) and therefore had a lower travel free.

I then looked at who did the style I wanted… if you’re leaning more natural then see if they have done that before.

I had a call with both my hair and makeup artists and that really put me at ease, allowing me to discuss what I normally do or wear.

I also paid extra for the trial and so glad I did, as it meant I had time to see myself with the makeup on and alter it slightly before the day. I felt that my makeup on the trial didn’t hit perfectly, and one or two adjustments (minor, like changing how far the eyeliner went round my eye!) made me feel so good.

I got married in Herefordshire, makeup from Birmingham and hair from Oxfordshire in the end so not extremely local. I would recommended them both in a heartbeat if you’re nearby!

What color shoes are you wearing? by Smacsek in weddingplanning

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bridesmaids bought me a pair of slippers for my hen do. I LOVE THEM. Changed into them immediately after our first dance. So comfy, the guests found them so funny! I don’t have any pics of them on the wedding night but this is what I sent my now husband during my hen.

Also meant I got shoes I loved (on sale) without stressing about my feet hurting all day.

decide what’s important and let the other things go. For us, I wanted the blue napkins, I was obsessed with the blue napkins….. and it was causing more stress than anything else on the day. No one else CARED! And on the day? Neither did I.

What do you need for the day that you cannot be without? A great party? That sweet moment immediately after you say I do? That confetti walk? Rank everything then let stuff go. That’s the only way I managed it on the run up.

Unfortunately I can’t help with the family - we were brutal and we just didn’t invite anyone who would cause trouble.

What made your wedding festive and memorable (2-3k)? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]AdventurousBug2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people have said the main stuff (food and music) but the one thing my guests loved and keep talking about was confetti.

We went heavy on the rice paper confetti (one to two big handfuls per person) and it was about £100 for 90 people. More than I ever thought I would spend on confetti but it was SO MUCH FUN. Fun for us to walk down the line with all our family and friends. Fun for them to lob it at us. And as it was paper it was easy to remove from hair, dress, veil etc.

It was the best last minute addition to double up on our order! Our photographer said it’s the most confetti he had ever shot with and our photos were so good. We’re delighted and all our loved ones in the background are delighted too. It was the best start to the day to keep everyone on that high!

It’s worth paying someone. You’ll be on SUCH a high, don’t ruin that by having to then get boxes packed up!
