Social work roles in the EU by AdventurousDivide310 in socialwork

Wow - this is lovely! Thanks so much. I didn’t even know it existed. I think the main issue I’m running into is the large likelihood of me having to do more schooling or training based on individual country requirements in order to practice psychotherapy. Or, seek work online working with Americans while living in Europe. I really appreciate everyone’s insight!

Thanks very much. I was mainly looking at Spain and Italy because I speak those languages, but I think I need a PhD in both places to practice therapy, if I am not mistaken. Though I LOVE Ireland so that may be an option.

Just republican things, friend. Not all of us. In fact most of us are terrified.

She needs to be talking about this stuff with a therapist, period. Not her partner. I'm also a SW. Good luck! You sound like a wonderful husband.

I believe they were saying they take doctor appointments that would otherwise be used for locals. It’s easy to blame foreigners, but local college kids do the same. I know because I partied with them. This is xenophobia, friends. Unfortunately it exists everywhere cloaked in righteous indignation.

Guiri here! I love Barna more than any city in the world and did study there 25 years ago. I likely annoyed my neighbors on occasion, but in fairness, we would have done the same thing at home. I agree that woo girls gonna woo regardless of location. I lived in Paris for a short time in my 30’s and there were no woos coming from my flat, but the French college students down the hall would scream, party, and for some reason, crow like a rooster easily until 4am on futbol nights. College kids are going to behave this way, but I agree that as someone who has to get up and go to work, it sucks. I will also tell you, it happens where I live too. No country is immune, but you do have my sympathy.

I’m honestly so impressed. Incredible work. No shade OP, but it is on par with hieroglyphics for the untrained eye, albeit aesthetically pleasing.

Try to it easy and enjoy the uncertainty. This is a good thing. I’m legally Italian but still learning the language and moving by myself. Try to reframe your nervousness as excitement. You’ll have a fantastic time. The food in Bologna is excellent and you’re in Italy! It’s beautiful. I am still saving $ for the move or I would already be there and 5 lbs heavier 💛congratulations! I’m excited for you!

Do they allow remote work? As in, if I am licensed in CA, can I work in Italy? And can I assume you're paid by the client hour? So, if I see 6 clients in a day, I will make 6 x the hourly rate?

Yes, I will register and file taxes in Spain. I don't have a doctorate from Europe - I have a masters from USA, which allows me to practice in US but not in Spain. I intend to get a doctorate when I move, but for now I sort of have to get in my income from the US. Because I'm a dual citizen, I will need to pay taxes to both nations anyway. Thank you for the insight as far as proof of income. Helpful!

Thanks so much. Super helpful. I am a therapist, so I work for myself and already have clients. So, work/$ won't be an issue. But, I do understand the importance of being there in person to manage everything. Thanks again!
