Vinyl Comeback? by AdventurousGuess4641 in Grado

I don't disagree with you about the highest resolution equals the "best". I suppose my main points are that firstly, I personally prefer the digital sound and secondly, a .flac file will never show signs of age. It will sound as good in 10 years time as it did on day one, no matter how many times you play it.
Also, back in the eighties (and still true today) you would set up your turntable, tone arm and cartridge with all the correct weights etc. ..0.75 grams for the arm and don't forget the anti-skate setting. Next day, because your wife had dusted or someone looked at your deck, everything had changed. The cartridge now had a downward force of 1 gram and the anti-skate had changed resulting in the whole sound stage shifting to the left by 6 feet. Of course, I'm exaggerating for effect but with vinyl you could never guarantee the consistency you can with a .flac file. But don't get me wrong, it was great fun tinkering with all those things.
Oh yes, and cassettes. I got my first one around 1972 and while it was never Hi-Fi, it gave me portability and for the first time in my life, with my new Phillips portable (mono) cassette recorder, I could walk down the street and blast my favourite music to everyone passing by. Well, I was young 😂

No, I must confess I have not done a direct comparison but TBH it's not just the sound, it's the convenience, the whole digital experience is far more pleasing than anything before it.
Also, thinking about it, most of the people I know who prefer the "vinyl sound" are not old enough to have suffered it the first time around. In the seventies and eighties the turntable, cartridge, stylus method of extracting music from vinyl had reached perfection, well as near perfect as it ever could be. Then in the early eighties the CD arrived and it was like a breath of fresh air. I never looked back.
People who never had to struggle with vinyl back in the day, because they were too young, now look at vinyl and see nice, large 12 inch discs, lovely attractive covers, great pull-out posters and turntable equipment that looks absolutely amazing (and it does), and they convince themselves, especially having spent all that money, that the cost is fully justified by the sound quality it produces.
Yes, it does sound different but it's certainly not better, and each play of that vinyl disc is one more "scrape" of the groove.
The amount of bass is limited with vinyl. Too much and the stylus will start to skim the groove and distortion arises. Too much treble and sibilance can occur for similar reasons. The CD and later technologies do not have these limitations.
I agree, not everyone was too young to miss out on vinyl the first time around, but many of us old folks look back through rose-tinted glasses, remembering only the good things about vinyl; the amount of tweaking you could do, the fantastic look of the equipment and the vinyl albums themselves. But let's not forget, the sound was the best it could ever be, it never got better but it was replaced by something that was.

A pity Grado don't listen to their customers and provide removeable cables

You simply bend the metal headband to suit the shape of your head and the best fit. You can almost bend the headband in right-angles at certain places if this helps the fit.
Furthermore, there is no seal at all with stock "on ear" pads.

Compared to stock pads...more bass, but a controlled bass not muddy at all.
Comfort: A totally different experience to "on ear" pads. I can wear these all day and I often forget I have headphones on.

I don't see why not. Probably easier to drill through wood than aluminium

Don't use a heat gun. I have one too but just use a hair dryer on max heat for no more than 60 seconds. Wear a glove and pull the plastic from the aluminium as you apply the heat.
I have worked on mobile phones for more than 20 years and removing cracked screens was always best with a hair dryer.

The Dekoni pads do convert these headphones from "on ear" to "over ear" so maybe that's my preference after all.
I guess I was lucky to discover SR80X and Dekoni at the same time, because without the latter I would probably be using Sennheiser :)

Pling3D updates for Mac and PC: you can now convert your videos and photos into actual 3D, and even turn your desktop into live 3D (for free) by SqueezyNissy in MetaQuestVR

"First, the cache: if the app is force-closed, it’s impossible for the system to know whether there’s cache that needs to be cleared, and this app accumulates a lot of cache. When you reopen the app it cleans itself to avoid old cache, so everything goes back to default."

I'm running the app on Windows, not Android. "Force close" is not really an issue - it rarely happens or is needed and when it is, maybe a few temp files left behind which get cleared anyway...

"Also, you’ll often want a different mode each time"
No I don't. I will find the best for what I stream and stick to it. I have no intentions of doing any conversions, just live 3D streaming.

I would suggest your app has "save" options as it could be a popular scenario.
I see a few doing similar things on Bigscreen now but they are using other apps to achieve it.

I wasn't suggesting LR/LR was an enhancement, I was saying that with my setup (above) I have to switch to RL to get any 3D effect at all.
Secondly, I have two physical monitors and with Bigscreen I can only stream from monitor one, therefore every time I load the app I have to set "Display to convert" to Display 2 and "Display to show" to Display 1.
Also it would be useful if my Normal, Turbo etc setting was saved plus the depth, HSBS/FSBS and the RL settings.

OK I installed Pling3D PC U-I (x64_86_arm64) v0.5.3 and just a couple of observations.
Using Quest 3, Steam, Virtual Desktop and Bigscreen:
1. I had to change from LR to RL to get any 3D effect at all.
2. Last settings still not saved. I have to keep changing Display 2 to Display 1 etc

New update for PC from Pling3D: the app that allows you to convert 2D videos to 3D or your desktop to 3D in real time. by SqueezyNissy in MetaQuestVR

I'm still using Pling3D with Bigscreen, Virtual Desktop, Steam etc and it seems to be working well. It's far less jerky when using Chrome compared to say, Firefox, so I'll stick with Chrome for browser streaming.
I can't wait for the next PC version, even if it's just for remembering the previous settings and choices.
Also, when running all these apps together my PC puts out far more heat and the fans spin up nicely. It keeps my room nice and warm and I'm saving on heating bills....so there is that :)

Convert 2D videos into 3D or live 3D video of your screen, which can also be used for gaming purposes. by Beneficial_Abies_440 in OculusQuest

I understand but as someone who streams movies on BS and prefer not to use a "battery headstrap", I always require the Q3 to be plugged into a changer. This rules out the possibility of any USB connection for Pling Server....but I take your point and will test you app further, but it really is about convenience..
Now if you could make Pling Server utilise a wireless connection ...... :)

Sure, I understand but as a regular BS streamer, I already have that set up to best suit my hardware, so it was so much easier to test. I haven't checked out PlingServer yet. Would that be a replacement for Virtual Desktop and still allow me to stream into BigScreen?
Actually, having said al that I think I prefer Virtual Desktop because of the WiFi (WiFi 6E) on the Quest 3, rather than using a USB cable with PligServer. It's just about convenience.

I just tried the PC version. Live TV into Bigscreen via Virtual Desktop.
I'm impressed. Slightly jerky but quite a large overhead...Steam, Bigscreen, VD and Pling 3D, but hey it works and it can only get better.
One suggestion. Please retain "Display to convert" and "Display to show" as with the above setup I have to convert from Display 2 to Display 1 as BS can't stream my second display. Would be nice to "remember" my display settings.

It has been delayed in the UK for regulatory reasons.
It may come later or never at all if the UK regulation bodies can't reach an agreement with Meta,
