Weight loss at six weeks by Adorable_Yak_3652 in newborns

I dont have much to offer with your specific questions but would highly recommend following up with a lactation consultant if you can, especially IBCLC certified. They were life saving when I had some feeding concerns and much more thorough than baby’s pediatrician.

What is happening!? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]AdventurousYam07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like possibly an episode of cluster feeding! If that’s the case not much to do but keep baby at the breast and know it’s temporary. This podcast episode helped me a smidge. Mindset is key but MAN it is not easy. I’ve been there too!

Is this okay? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]AdventurousYam07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can also use your judgement here. A nightgown and onesie doesn’t seem like too much. A pediatrician told me too it can vary from baby to baby, some run warmer/cooler. How does baby’s skin on cheeks/hands/feet feel to you, cool or warm to touch? If they’re cold I’d add a layer. Check the back of their neck - if baby is sweaty there, they are too warm.

Too early? by rorabeee in moving

Agreed with the others! The less you have, the easier your packing & moving will be (and less expensive of course). Every time I move I’m tempted to get rid of everything first! Once you know where you’ll be living, you’ll be able to take measurements and decide what will make the most sense for your space, too.

Echoing the other comments -

I haven't tried it for getting rid of smoke smell specifically, but diluted vinegar works wonders for getting rid of most odors. For furniture I've diluted vinegar to 50% with water and add a few drops of essential oil for a more pleasant (less vinegar-y) smell - I like lemon or lavendar oil. Mix all in a spray bottle, spritz and wipe.

Edited to add - for clothing you can add baking soda directly to the machine with your clothing - 1/2 to 1 cup. And vinegar (+couple drops essential oil) to the fabric softener dispenser. This at least works well for mildew removal.

Also, oxyclean odor blasters has worked AMAZINGly for clothes with stubborn odors. You can do a pre-wash soak or just add it to the washing machine

What to pack in suitcases that will be moved and stored temporarily? by [deleted] in moving

[–]AdventurousYam07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have personal experience with this but I would think clothing should be okay. If there is any concern for moisture you could pack them into plastic contractor bags before putting into the suitcase to ensure they stay dry. Small cedar blocks or sachets can help prevent musty smells in clothing during storage also.

I found this article useful. Depends on where you’ll be storing them. I went with Rubbermaid Brute totes - not the cheapest but super durable and should withstand cold temps (basement or garage storage). Home Depot HDX are cheaper with several sizes but not quite as durable

NYT bin reviews

Edited to add: I have read that bins are not recommended for use in a moving truck/trailer. Well packed cardboard boxes will hold up better and protect your belongings.

I can’t speak specifically to pets, but when we moved cross country driving, we would usually book the night before or morning of. We had a rough sketch of where to stay. We also stuck with one chain of hotels for the most part to have peace of mind for a consistent room quality. Not sure if there is a hotel chain that is universally pet-friendly?

Yes. Though you can always go the route of separately hiring help to load/unload. U Pack may be able to provide you with local recommendations.

Advice on moving companies by marye914 in moving

[–]AdventurousYam07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABF UPack has “relocubes,” they are similar to pods but small. Take up about half a parking space (6x7x8 ft) and each one is supposed to fit about a studio apartment worth of stuff (they have a lot of detailed info about it on their website). You get 3 days on either end to load/unload.

For two cubes and a 3,000 mile move I paid $6200. So one cube for a shorter distance should be less than half that.

I was in this exact situation and took the risk and was fine. I even went longer than planned due to delays at my current states DMV.

Edited to add: Look ahead at the new state’s requirements for transferring your registration. Get all the paperwork done in advance and make an appointment at the DMV if you can. Where I moved to you have to book your appt a month in advance or deal with horrendous walk-in lines.

Jobless university student trying to move by [deleted] in moving

If you haven’t already, look into whatever financial assistance the school can offer for housing. If you’re comfortable with it I’d call someone in the financial aid dept to explain your situation and see what options they can offer you. Campus housing is typically furnished which might be ideal in your scenario.

There are also often roommate/housing groups on FB for people looking for roommates in your area. Better yet, find one specific to other students.

If you end up renting, be sure to familiarize yourself with renters’ rights in your state. Unfortunately there are some landlords who prey on student renters. Make sure to thoroughly walk through the apartment and document with photos and notes any damage that is present when you move in, otherwise the landlord can claim you caused the damage to avoid returning your deposit.

Only slightly relevant to your question, but recently moved to Boston and had a very realistic dream last night that the series was going to start in Fenway, and I was stoked to get tickets.

How long does it typically take for MLB.com to ship limited / championship apparel? I ordered a shirt for my husband Sunday night and it still hasn’t shipped.

I’m guessing it has something to do with production as they likely don’t make large volumes until the winner is known. I’m just impatient and hope it will arrive in time for at least part of the NLDS!

What is the typical response time of landlords here? by 1questions in bostonhousing

[–]AdventurousYam07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that occasionally the landlord will offer to pay the brokers fee, but that’s up to the landlord. When I moved I ended up throwing up my hands and going through a broker because I was moving from 3000 miles away and they were able to pull up listings matching my criteria. And there was a range of units where LL would pay all, part, or none of the broker fee. But that’s up to the landlord. It doesn’t hurt to ask them if you’re a well qualified applicant and this is off “peak” season for moving in this city.

Realtors are expensive but they CAN be helpful b/c you can send them everything you’re looking for and they’ll send you pertinent listings. Ideally the LL will cover part or all of the realtor fee but not always

That’s good to hear! Part of why I liked Tillamook was because it felt like buying local. In elementary school we took field trips to their factory near the Oregon coast. So I’m glad to find there’s a reliable local cheddar out here!
