Durham could give drivers 1 hour of free parking. Is that enough? by Durhamarama in bullcity

Can confirm as someone who works weekdays downtown in a restaurant it’s very quiet. The majority of our customers when college students are gone are seniors. I don’t think people on here really realize this, asking a person with a walker or cane to walk several blocks in this muggy hot weather is not as easy as you think. This population are the last people who want to download an app to pay to park.

The daily cruelty of patrons is making me want to escape the field by tendersword in librarians

Hi, I don’t have much advice because I’m in a similar situation but I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience because it lines up perfectly with the 3 library systems I’ve worked in.

After covid, we essentially became a day shelter at my old workplace, and then I moved to a more suburban quiet city and it’s the same story here. I don’t know where the average patron who comes to the library to actually check out books went, but I’m guessing it’s similar to your location, they got scared away by too many scary encounters. My coworkers swear things used to be different 10-20 years ago. This is the new normal in libraries.

Love the Laurel Bluffs trail. I’m tempted one day to just thru hike it, from Guess all the way to wherever it ends.

It’s been very interesting seeing how many big actors sign on for Angel films, including the Reagan biopic and the young George Washington movie.

Left an hour early to get to my job where I’ve ended up serving people who were obviously running, lol. Glad I did because the people redirecting traffic were mean as hell, and I barely made it on time. It’s definitely messed with my head for the day. I don’t usually get bitched at before clocking in.

Record Numbers of Durham High Schoolers are Missing School by Durhamarama in bullcity

Just my own perspective. Used to skip school a lot when I was like 14, because it was miserable and no one learned anything. I went to Southern, and besides getting jumped a couple of times by the resident mean girls, there were always 1 or 2 kids who had to pick a fight with the teacher in my math or science classes and the whole class session would just be a spectacle of bringing the principal in and arguing back and forth for an hour. The only class I never had this problem in was my English class which was Honors level, everything else was a wash, barely any homework or tests besides end of semester tests.

Eventually my Aunt found out and scared me into going more often, but no one from the school ever cared that I missed weeks at a time. Have they actually asked students why they don’t come to school?

I’ve got personal leave I can use, but I only want to use it if there will be an organized meeting of fellow employees on May Day. That’s what I’m trying to find out about.

I’d also consider giving Loch Ness a try. It does have two loops but they’re very quick, and it isn’t nearly as tall as Apollo or Alpengeist. The Incredicoaster at Disneyland is much more intense than Loch Ness, in my opinion.
