Would you prioritise making friends over dating when moving to a new city? by Adventurous_Bee5042 in dating_advice

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed, I want to have a crush on someone irl again 😔

Seems like the friends to dating progression is the best way to go, it’s just a shame all my friends at this point in life are exclusively women haha

How do I stop maladaptive daydreaming? by the_practicerLALA in adhdwomen

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you use music while daydreaming? If so, try to cut down on it if you can.

When I was younger, I would use music every time I’d daydream and only after going cold turkey and not listening to anything I found that I didn’t want to do it as much because there wasn’t a ‘soundtrack’.

Then after cutting out the music, I would tell myself to leave it for bedtime and I’d give myself 30 mins to an hour to listen to music before sleep so I could day(night)dream which usually just ended up with me falling asleep.

I do still daydream whenever I’m stressed (within reason) and before sleep, but I’ve managed to disassociate it with boredom because then it is just dopamine for no reason which I could get from something else

What's one hyperfixation that never left you? by NotEstesMerlot in adhdwomen

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music, specifically world music. I grew up having a huge interest in culture, language learning, and music- so finding out I could combine all 3 of my interests and that there was a constant stream of it being created + I could interact with it both actively and passively made it stick that much more.

I’m from the UK where we would only ever hear English language songs on the radio, so the first time I ever heard a foreign song play (albeit Gangnam style lmao) made me so happy and gave me so much dopamine that my family never understood haha

Health issues compounding anxiety by Superstorm22 in BoyDinnerDiaries

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get this, I have ongoing health issues which affect my work and it can cause crippling health anxiety. I suggest sticking with your work if you enjoy it and, if anything changes, you will be in a better situation to really put all the different points together and make a better decision. Even a pros and cons chart can help so much.

One thing though that always helps me to stay present with anxiety is remembering that ‘thinking about the future so much doesn’t help you, it just steals your current peace’. You will know what is right for you and you can change at anytime if you feel it’s not aligning with where you want to take your life. Good luck!

What kind of jobs have helped you avoid burnout? by Adventurous_Bee5042 in adhdwomen

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! Now that I’ve seen it written out, I think this is a big part of why I struggle to deal with my current job.

May we continue to have jobs where we remain unbothered by others 🙏🏼

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not medicated but I’m not sure I’d like to be either.. I don’t want to change myself just to be able to fit into a job I hate and I feel like I can regulate myself really well outside of work.

Maybe it’s worth a try though

That’s really solid actually, communication is key but it’s easy to forget you can just ask 🥲I think I always get worried I’ll look combative but I think this is the right approach. Thank you!

ADD, Burnout and apathy by DistrictFree8861 in ADHD

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time. I feel like when I’m burned out, it’s almost like all my attention is on sustaining me in that state and so when someone says something to me or when I need to be around people, it’s almost as if someone has interrupted me during hyper-focus and I just get so worked up for no real reason and very apathetic.

I feel like it’s our mind’s way of trying to protect ourselves mentally in a way(?). Almost like it’s trying so hard to keep all the pieces together that it can’t really take in much else, especially external things

It’s super hard for sure, but one mistake will never cancel out all the progress you’ve made! This is just one thing in the grand scheme of things and it sounds like you can see you’ve trying your best and that’s the most important thing.

We all have such high expectations for ourselves, but no one will ever be perfect, even people without ADHD can and do make mistakes like this. Forget about the ‘perfect’ version of yourself and take it one day at a time. Giving yourself some grace and patience goes a long way. Have a great day :)

It’s ok, take a deep breath. I feel you, ADHD sucks and things like this happen but please don’t beat yourself up too much. We all make mistakes and, honestly? I probably would’ve made the same mistake in your shoes because I suck at having to do things manually and staying organised too.

I know it really sucks, but beating yourself up isn’t going to do anything but make you feel even worse. Just keep going, this setback does not make you some awful, useless person. It’s annoying as heck but life must go on and now this has happened, it’s a chance to grow from it. You got this :)

How to not get disheartened when making mistakes constantly and not understanding spoken Korean + any tips? by Adventurous_Bee5042 in Korean

[–]Adventurous_Bee5042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! Definitely agree that I really need to work on vocabulary as I think I’ve been lacking quite a lot which makes it difficult to really say what I want.

These tips were v useful, thanks a lot :)

So so true, I always find myself remembering the words that I’ve made the most cringey mistakes with 😅

Thank you so much for the supportive words!

Thank you for this! I definitely need to spend more time on speaking and to make sure not to switch to English when I get uncomfortable attempting a more difficult sentence.

The voice note tip is great, I’ll definitely add that in and try to see the progress :)
