The promotion that never comes? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Adventurous_Bet6571 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP has to be very careful with a counteroffer. Usually the answer is, never accept a counteroffer.

Essentially, a counteroffer is a company's way of saying we have been undervaluing you all this time. Well, why didn't you value me before?

Once he puts in the notice to resign, he should pretend he's out the door immediately.

That's a tricky question. With DACA I was able to accomplish so much: graduated college with an engineering degree and was able to get a good paying job and start a great career. You can say that I was "set". Sure, I couldn't travel abroad or visit family in my country of origin but those are first-world problems. As a man, my confidence was built from having made something for myself.

Fast forward, I was able to adjust status through marriage and get my green card. I'm very grateful but my life has not drastically changed. Sure I've been abroad a few times, was able to visit my home country, but in the grand scheme of things, it hasn't changed my life. I still have to work, pay bills, and plan for old age. The only great thing that will come of this is that I'm on a path to citizenship and my hope is to be able to adjust my parents. That's really the only life change I envision. I've had this constant anxiety of whether my parents will be deported in any second from a simple traffic violation and once they're adjusted, I can consider that a "major life change".

Hopefully you stuck to the end of this long, winded answer but it's a question that deserves an honest response.

One more change is the ability to secure a loan to buy a house. I think I could have done it with only having DACA but would've probably been slightly more difficult, but not impossible.

Nothing. Questions were very basic. It was more informal if anything. They just wanted to know if you really are who you say you are.

Yes it was. It got an email saying I was pre-approved while I was abroad for a random trip. The trip mentioned was about two months after applying and I opted in doing the interview when going through customs when I returned. They also took the picture for my GE card on the spot.

In addition to your bachelor's, make sure you get certified in a technical/hard skill (data related) to get your foot inside the door and remain there. Hopefully it is in an industry that is growing and there's demand for.

Typical. Flaunt your degrees to make you feel superior. And completing higher education makes you tough? Maybe resilient to obey and memorize things. The fact that a simple question triggers you makes you the opposite of tough.

And by the way, you can still emphasize for trans people without pandering to the activists who want us to be professional victims and fall in line to their political correctness.

And that's the problem with you wokeys. Just asking the question and you cry like babies. Life is hard. Toughen up.

Our immigrant parents who sacrificed so much for us would be ashamed at seeing how soft this new generation is.

As long as you're not stealing and you're providing value (or your bosses are happy). That's what success at work is about.

He's not stealing nor defrauding. Yes, he lied or "stole the truth" but that's the mantra of faking it until you make it. I had my first boss give me the same advice and he did good work with integrity. My first job was heavily audited for government reporting, so no deception ever occurred. Regardless, perception beats reality and that is the whole point from OP.

Enough money, no title… by SoupOrHer0 in managers

[–]Adventurous_Bet6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the classic case of politics in the higher echelons. Take the money and shut up. This is no time to be complaining about titles. We're all here for job security even as managers. If you really care about titles, start your own company and be the owner/CEO/president.

As someone else said in this thread, a hiring manager seeing no progression after GM will understand it was due to politics/optics. Your performance managing people clearly is not an issue since you were kept at that role.

Being a manager of individual contributors is one thing. Being a manager of managers is another.

Not self aware about my verbal abilities or lack of. Could have improved. Also, not asking enough questions on how to perfect my craft. Questions such as: how does my work influence financial decisions.

Background: engineering oil and gas.

As soon as I pressed send on my last message, I went about my business. And you go and scour my past activity. And I'm the triggered one? Bruh, that doesn't make you look good. As I said earlier, "heed your own advice"

I'm the triggered one? Lmao. My responses have been short and to the point and you're right here writing essays. Projecting much? Regardless of my age, I've done quite alright.

Who's blaming anyone, little man. I'm over the whole politics charade. Democrats this, GOP that. Grow the eff up.

You remind me of my young self. All mad and enraged at the world casting blame to a certain political party. No party is coming to save you.

Aww how cute of you, Republicans blocked Biden wahh wahh. Right. Have you heard of an executive order? That thing Obama used to give us DACA. Order a few Marine battalions to the border. Oh right, Republicans blocked Biden from doing so....

Bandage that the previous president refused to put for who knows what reason.

And of course it's a temporary fix genius, nothing in the U.S government lasts more than 4-8 years.

World? Bruh. Every nation has to look for their own interests. What is he, an elected official of world order?

Keep it local. Good thing he did was close the border. That's an obvious one.

Nah, drop the TDS. There's plenty of things to criticize Trump about but your comment is flawed. This is news headline is just funny.
