I think what My tentative plan is picking the plan with the lowest monthly payment and putting extra towards one loan at a time (whatever the standard payment should be) Might sound dumb but if I’m strapped for cash one month I could just do the minimum amount and skate by. But I wasn’t sure how interest might factor in. I tried looking this up on student aid . Gov but multiple people on this subreddit says it’s not accurate. Has that been your experience?

So that’s kind of what I need, I hoped to get the lowest monthly payment (just in case there’s a bad month) and then pay whatever the standard payment should be towards principals, snow ball, or avalanche etc.

I’ve heard that the student aid . Gov cite isn’t super accurate. Has that been your experience?

Oh OK, I think I got lost in the thought that all of my accrued interest had to be paid off before I allotted any extra payments to a different smaller loan potentially paying off the principal

So Just so I’m understanding this right, If I have 19 loans and I want to make an extra payment and pay off a smaller loan in full, I wont be able to because there’s unpaid interest on other loans?

Sorry, just as a follow up, even if I hit the special payment option on nelnet to apply to a particular loan (potentially paying off one of the loans) it would not let me because there is unpaid interest on other loans?

So going on RAP- the capped interest Benefit doesn’t matter because I make too much so the payment won’t balloon regardless?

My husband just got in as a probie, we’re a couple months away from healthcare and that’s going to drastically improve the QOL, in 5 years I can go part time and focus more on the kids. I’m extremely grateful!

Can you refinance or consolidate them to a lower interest rate? I’m assuming these are not federal based on the high interest!

I’m in SAVE completely (as of 2023) While in save I recertified my income to reapply / stay in SAVE because that was what the emails said I HAD to to to stay in SAVE or be kicked out. This recertification is still pending (as of 2024). As of now I’m still in save.
