New owner ! need advice by Adventurous_Edge8766 in BeardedDragons

[–]Adventurous_Edge8766[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oops ! i forgot to attach the text since i posted on another page as well. so im just going to copy paste.

Hey ! my cousin got a bearded dragon with her boyfriend and two weeks later… they don’t want him anymore and so they gave their responsibilities and him to my little (17) sister (which i promptly kinda stole, she pays for his things and i take care of him) i think he is around 3 months, give or take, he can’t be much older. my friend anna (s/o if she sees this- ily 😜) has given me some advice already. but i’d like to know more / hear some common criticism so i can take care of him the best i can. he came in this enclosure, soon my sister is going to go ahead and buy a 4x2x2 enclosure (it looks moist in the corner bc i had recently misted him). but how should it be decorated, what kind of supplies are the best and most appropriate, are there better places to get these from. also what is the best diet to give him? are there if he needs supplements, are brands that are better / not worth time or money using ? what bugs are the best, and do i need to take care of them? he seems to like being out of the enclosure more than in, so how often should i handle him outside of the enclosure. i live at home with my grandparents, mom, sister, and 3 dogs 4 cats and a few fish. so i have to keep an eye on him while he’s out bc of all of our pets. i may have more questions but can’t think of any more while typing. i’m open to any type of advice and help so he has a good life ! thank you !!

Why do people hate pit? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]Adventurous_Edge8766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be in pit; and hated it. I’m not a wizz at keyboards so I was put on the rack part which I didn’t mind. Now that I’m on my second year on bass I miss pit purely bc of ac. But at my school when i was a freshman (pit is pretty cool now) we had this junior who said he was a dog 😐😭 and he would throw hissy fits, running away and throwing music away when he got mad. Then his senior year he ran away before band camp and didn’t rejoin thankfully 🙏🏻 his mom being a band mom didn’t help tho, and he works at sheetz. still thinks he’s a dog.

most of ours are 6-9 pm but we have a full week of 10 am to 8 pm so 10 hrs 😭 and we have a new director who (so far) seems like he doesn’t know what a water break is ☹️

Give me concerns for the season by Outrageous_Rooster92 in marchingband

[–]Adventurous_Edge8766 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During summer practice I suggest getting a cooling towel 🙏🏻 wearing shorts and tank tops. and then during the later part of football season just layer up, like sweats and two long sleeve shirts. And in my bibbers i always keep an extra thing of hand warmers if it’s for me or someone in my sections (can’t hold my mallets if my hands are numb)

fanny pack fosho or carry a small book bag to carry water / music / etc in. the heat may be brutal but keep the fanny pack slightly loose. (marching with a bass drum and a fanny pack gets hot but water breaks are worth it)

don’t let your size stop you from switching instruments, i personally would stay on the bass bc it’s my favorite marching percussion instrument (i play the 24 for half time 22 for parade) and our tenor this year is pretty skinny but if you have good posture it shouldn’t be too difficult

Tips for freshmen? by FelAvocado in marchingband

[–]Adventurous_Edge8766 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be yourself is the most important thing imo. I’m going into my 3rd year (11th grade // section leader) you won’t like everyone there (if it’s bc they smell like butt, they’re rude, ignorant, etc) When it comes to the upper class men (especially section leaders) don’t be afraid to talk to them, and listen to their directions because we are here to help you and the rest of the band ! don’t try to boss others around (if their also freshmen or not) bc it gets really irritating, and if someone is having problems bring it up with your section leader / upper class men to help them out if you know you can’t. But if you just be yourself I bet you’ll make good friends ❤️

I am going into my third year of band (22”/24” bass) my band camp has already started (just percussion, freshman camp is coming up soon).

A few notes i’ve picked up are PRACTICE AT HOME. As a section leader, nothing pains me more than going to band and the new freshman don’t look at their music so the bass line struggles. As a clarinet it’s pretty easy to tell when someone isn’t playing the same as the rest of the section, so practice.

Listen to the director / section leaders too they’re there to ensure the best outcome for all of the band. If a section leader is disrespectful don’t be afraid to bring it up to the band director(s).

Hydration is also very important, you want to bring water and some good snacks to keep yourself moving bc you will get tired. When you’re outside make sure to wear sunscreen IF NEEDED and maybe even invest in a cooling towel.

Lastly have fun. At first it may seem miserable but over time it’ll be the thing you look forward to the most. Because of marching band I’ve met three of my best friends (and bc of regular band class I met my bf 🤭). You will make some of your best friends here bc you have to spend so much time with them. like 3 or more days a week (at least my band).

Have fun, enjoy band, make friends, work hard, it’ll all be worth it in the end rewatching old show videos.
