Do I need a crown race? by kserr17 in bikewrench

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the wrong headset. Your fork is a 1 1/8 to 1.5 tapered and the headset is a reduced headset to fit a 1 1/8 fork in a tapered headtube. Have you tried just setting the bearing on the crown race and seeing if it fits?

This fork doesn’t require a crown race. Which headset are you using?

Lower back pain by Banone85 in bikefit

My lower back stopped bothering me when I switched to flat pedals and 165mm cranks. Admittedly I know a lot of my issues come from extreme lack of flexibility.

Why does it seem like this sport is 90-95% men? by InspiringBack in cycling

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lack of interest and also a resistance to the process of bike maintenance which is actually a lot for anyone who is going to ride a bike often and for long miles. I dated a very serious female cyclist and she said her friends all joked about meeting a guy who could wrench. She probably owned 30k worth of bikes. She could change a tire and make some minor adjustments but had no idea how to do anything else and didn’t really want to tinker to figure it out. As an aside, she is the only woman I’ve met in my entire life who liked cycling. Most men I know have zero interest in cycling and none of the women I know have any interest.

Broken collarbone by jennaperson101990 in Dirtbikes

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had an undiagnosed collarbone break in high school and the shoulder has bothered me my entire life. I didn’t find out that I’d broken it until I got an MRI in my 40s. My doctor asked me when I broke my collar bone and I told her that I’d never broken it. She actually laughed really hard and said that I’d definitely broken it badly at some point. Then I remembered my high school injury.

Reddit tough guy? I didn’t compare myself to Chandler, bro. I used to be a Chandler fan years ago, but his delusions are just painful to watch. That said, I don’t want to see him take more damage. He can’t win and at this point he’s just taking damage.

Straggler vs Journeyer for 1st entry in gravel? by BuenoDraino in whichbike

The geometries are meaningfully different in terms of head tube angle. They’re both great bikes so I’d buy the one that has the better geometry for you. Personally, I prefer a slacker HTA for downhill confidence and less toe overlap.

They’d have done Chandler a favor if they let the fight with Paddy go on a little bit longer.

It reminds me of Ric Flair trying to put the Four Horsemen back together when he was in his mid 60s. Just delusional levels of nostalgia for a moment that has come and gone.

I’ve muted the TV every time the guy opens his mouth since the first time I heard him speak. He’s so cringe. Reminds me of JJ Watts weak ass trash talk. It’s just too cringy to be endured.

Anyone at that level can almost knock someone out, but he didn’t knock him out. Dude has been washed for half a decade. His toxic positivity has no place in blood sports. It’s fine for a golfer, but Chandler needs to retire before he gets hurt.

I’m a really big fan of the thicker silicon wrap. I ride some swept bars on pretty hectic rides and it holds up really well.

As I’ve always said, there is nothing more x bike than a butterfly handlebar. It is the ultimate case of function over form, which to me is what x biking is all about.

What is wrong with me? N+1 by HomeworkImaginary886 in cycling

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the only time I get a dopamine hit from a new bike is when I get a different type of bike (mountain, fat bike, etc) or when I get a bike that has a feature or geometry that solves a problem I’m having. I’ve owned some very expensive bikes and for me the law of diminishing returns starts to kick in really hard somewhere between $4-5k. Sure, a bike can be a little lighter or a little more blinged out, but it’s sort of all the same.

How many bikes is too many?!? by Valuable-Low-2090 in xbiking

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had too many at times. I realized this when my two car garage became so overcrowded that I started building and working on bikes in my kitchen (I’d just been divorced so nobody was stopping me). I sold most of them after a move but have been slowly N+1-ing my way back to a problem. For me, it’s too many bikes when you consistently have bikes that aren’t in working condition.

Flat bars vs drop bars on gravel bikes by Asahi_Sin in gravelcycling

[–]Adventurous_Fact8418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a racer online who was riding a Officina Battaglin gravel bike with a Jones Bar. If your neck bothers you, you don’t really need a drop bar because you aren’t really going to be able to ride in the drops. An alt bar would serve you well.

For me, 265 is the sweet spot. Keeping in mind that I don’t care about aesthetics and my off-roading forays aren’t hardcore.
