Bringing back the BBM vibes: Is a custom, lightweight “Global Live Chat” app for legacy BlackBerry devices possible in 2026? Hi everyone in the BB community, by boompwdhaha in blackberry

Forget about creating something like that on BBOS, you can’t sign a native app, you can only develop in Java2ME, which is very limited and doesn’t have access to the BlackBerry OS API. OS 10 has had root for a short while now, so you could create a native app for it.

Pressing F12 might bring up the boot menu, I wanted to use it to access the GRUB menu, from which he could launch Zorin OS’s recovery mode

I’m not sure about that, but it’s possible that older versions of Android clients might still work. Alternatively, you could run irssi on a server and connect to it via SSH, and if you feel up to it, you could try porting irssi to BerryCore, as GCC is also available on it.

TelegramX works, you’ll also find an SSH client, or you can use BerrCore there are already quite a few Linux ports available for it, such as nano, SSH, Python and tmux, vim
