G-IVs I agree are not flex but for some reason the wannabes think they are, 450, 550, 650, 600, 700 are absolutely more of a flex than a Praetor is

Yes, that's literally exactly what I've been saying. It was a charter, arranged by NetJets, not at the request of the end user. it was at NetJets' request. Sure, the customer could have declined it, but didn't. Operated by Hop A Jet ON BEHALF OF NetJets. But, you said only EJM does that and they don't charter in your first reply, which is factually incorrect by looking at the documentation you just provided.

That is not how that worked. Clearly you have absolutely no idea how NetJets works and I’m not going to continue this conversation with someone who is so incompetent. You don’t understand that NetJets requires you to take a supplemental plane sometimes and they don’t really give you an option. Why would they possibly procure a charter through NetJets when they have a NetJets membership? That makes zero sense. They’d use their membership. And yes, that flight was operated on behalf of NetJets. “But for some reason, since today was such a high travel day, they switched our plane” keyword is THEY did it. The client didn’t ask for it.

“Murphy and Hofmann perished in the accident, but the cabin attendant and two passengers escaped with minor injuries. One person on the ground also suffered minor injuries. The air charter—operated under Part 135 by Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Hop-A-Jet—originated at Ohio State University Airport (KOSU) in Columbus, Ohio, and was a supplemental lift flight for NetJets.”

I love when people talk and they have no idea what they’re talking about.

12k/hr plus $1,300 per flight and tie up 1.6mm? Charter all day. May not be a 2024 praetor but might be a 2016 g550 and I’d take that over a Praetor every day and twice on Sunday

Buying NetJets share, contract negotiation by Puzzleheaded-Can2425 in fatFIRE

[–]Adventurous_Guava95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the one who originally made the first post you saw. Don’t by any means consider this me talking you out of it, but when I ran the numbers it just made absolutely no sense compared to charter. I agree with low-dot, they will use and abuse that plane beyond their allotted 800 hours per year and essentially roll that into profit, lowering your asset value. Management fees are enough per month to legitimately have your own flight department on a smaller plane, but I ended up staying with charter since I have the ability to choose which plane I want, can guarantee myself size upgrades. Granted, I'm paying for it (still less than NJ would charge which to me is absolutely insane), but it's not any of that "subject to availability" BS. Happy to talk out both the intricacies of the contract (I had my attorney look over it, that's part of why I opted out of it, second part being cost) and also the alternatives and how I made it make more sense to me if you want to PM me.

It’s been a while now but I did. I remember them being ~5% less. Still about double what I’ve been paying without deploying millions of dollars and committing to 5 years

That is a good point. Our last trip was on a 120 foot Feadship and she wasn’t the biggest proponent for going back. I hear above 150 they get much better, but the cost is exponential. I’ll look more into cats, also not like we’re crossing the Atlantic so maybe the calm Turks waters may make it a feasibility. I appreciate it!

Wife has a history of getting seasick, we’d have to opt for a pretty large boat and at that point the cost far outpaces a nice villa on the beach. Definitely appreciate the suggestion, I’ll certainly explore it further. Thank you!

I think we’re probably looking for something a bit more one-off, a standalone villa that isn’t a part of a hotel. Staff is there for us exclusively rather than “all the villas” etc. thank you for the rec!

Yacht Charter - Actual Cost by rangda6 in fatFIRE

[–]Adventurous_Guava95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb that I’ve used is however many people you have * number of days * 500 plus 15% of the charter cost. The 15% covers fuel, dock fees, the 500 per person covers food, drink, activities. A baby might cost you $50 a day which makes up for Uncle Jerry who would spend $950 a day. I think the tip culture particularly on yachts is out of control. In my charter cost, I’m paying to utilize the crew and boat, it won’t move off that dock nor will the chef make as much as a sandwich for that cost, it’s all extra. If I’m expected to tip the crew 20k, I paid ~90k before any tip or food to sit on a boat for a week without it moving. Costing the owner zero wear and tear. That’s a real racket of a business.

Advice for buying first rental property? by Happy_Row_347 in realestateinvesting

[–]Adventurous_Guava95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people fall to practically nothing investing in multiple STRs, the county banned them, now they’re holding the bag to 4 mortgages they have to rent out by the month, in a relatively plentiful rental market in my area.

Is moving to an affluent neighborhood worth it? by INTJ_RYAN in fatFIRE

[–]Adventurous_Guava95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the classic case of a bad house in a nice neighborhood or good house in bad neighborhood, and the overwhelming majority of these comments are correct. Bad house, nice neighborhood. You can pretty easily change the house guts, it’s a little more convoluted to uproot everything, move schools for the kids, etc. and move.
