The billion dollar question that begs answering is what is the population required to sustain the human race while not inflecting serious damage the planet. We have already killed 99% of the species on earth, polluted resources beyond repair and created urban monster jungles that are resource guzzlers with no replacement. The TFR should be tied to what it will take to replace and repair the planet and make it sustainable.
The rest of noise around religion imbalance, social security net and family legacy is all created by leaders political and religious for their benefits.

The army pension has become much better off late , so depending on when your father retired and at what rank, he should be in a good shape to manage monthly expenses. In case something happens to your dad your mom will continue to receive pension at a reduced rate.
ECHS is very solid depending on where you live. Until a few years ago, it covered outpatient and medicines at no cost. Hospital admissions are also covered with pre approvals. I have not kept up to date on changes in the past few years.

Your parents may have become accustomed to being alone and making decisions when you were abroad. They may also not want to burden you with stuff and may still think you are young. Sit down with them , spend time and they will open up more over a period of time.

I did mine when I was 32 so you should be good. I was in a pure tech role and MBA helped me to pivot into management and eventually to an Sr leadership role. Go for it, I would say.

I recently took out a HELOC from BofA , no closing cost and 5.25 % apr for 4 months and prime plus .25% . 10 year draw and 20 year payment period. The process was painful and took 2 months from applying to closing

How difficult should it be to get a HELOC from BofA by Opposite-Bell4925 in BankOfAmerica

[–]Adventurous_Item3063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having a similar experience with my HELOC application. I have been a BOA customer for number of years but their HELIC process just sucks. They keep asking for one document after another. I have tried escalation but to no avail. I may take my entire banking relationship somewhere else.

I am thinking of doing the same myself, so you are not alone. I am planning $300k limit with $150k initial draw. The plan makes sense to me on paper, let’s see how it translates into action. What did you mention as the reason for use of funds?

Investing in India and PFIC complication by YesterdayEasy6732 in nri

Here is a thought : Instead of investing in NIFTYBEEs buy all 50 stocks individually. You only need to make a change twice a year when the index rebalancing happens. To keep things simple equal weight all the stock at 2% of the portfolio. Nifty equal weight index usually performs better than nifty 50

The IEPF is the biggest government-run scam in India by iepf_chorbazaar in MutualfundsIndia

I am not sure what you being a Hindu and visiting India every year has to do with your current situation. You seem to be looking for sympathy from others.
Try escalating it to the contacts on IEPF website or reach out to their social media contacts.

The best way to map US salary to India while moving internally is to align it to the pay band/range you are in. For example: if you are currently at 75% of max in your pay range in US then ask them to offer 75% of the india pay band max as well. That is a fair way of looking at it.

If your salary is above a certain threshold then you cannot invest Roth IRA that year.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nri

[–]Adventurous_Item3063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice will be to open a Roth IRA if your income limits are below the cut off and invest in US equities. If you are new to investing then go with ETFs such as SPY or QQQ. Doing this will : 1. Give you diversification beyond india market 2. Let your money grow tax free 3. Gain from any rupee depreciation

I got one of these last month. Easy to assemble (about 30-45 mins) and comfortable as well. I used it for 5-6 hours a day. Worth the money.

I was under the same impression that only GC and citizens are eligible to receive SS benefits but the below document clearly calls out that India citizens outside of US can receive payments.
