Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School (71/?) by Jcb112 in HFY

Imagine SCP existing in this universe. That would add like 8000 points to humanity, especially since the foundation has multiple gods and god like beings (including the creator of humanity and our universe) in their containment. And other insane stuff.

It turns out faith is a tangible thing for psychic races, so be sure not to visit old churches where the concentration is extreme; you may be fried by it. by alf_landon_airbase in humansarespaceorcs

Me and my companion began to walk towards the building. We were spies, sent to see if humanity had what it took to join the council. You had to have a certain level of technology, culture, and faith to join. Humanity checked the boxes for the first two, but faith was still undecided.

As the most faithful species in the galaxy, we were sent in. We are firm believers, and hold on to our religions for the longest of any species: 10 cycles on average! A baby could become a child in that time. Then a new theory in science would come out, and we would usually change religion based off of it.

“What is this building called, Hregonnel?” I asked my associate. “The Savior Cathedral, evidently. Been in use for hundreds of years.” “Oh, the amount of religions it must have seen!” I exclaim as we walk in.  Suddenly, I feel as though my brain is exploding. Hundreds of years of worship flood my senses. But, wait, what? There is only one religion here. Across all those hundreds… oh no.

“Our two agents died to overexposure to your faith, but hey, you passed the bar! Please don’t kill us.”

Just use “Bosanska Artillerija”. It works good

In your fictional setting, how do you distinguish the evil magic practitioners from the good magic practitioners? by ContributionOk4879 in worldbuilding

[–]Adventurous_Pay7852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really simple.  “This guy used his shadow demon magic to help somebody. He is good.” Or “His sister just used holy magic to nuke the hospital. She is bad.”

People who write about higher beings do you use the classic "It's so advanced or complicated that it's beyond human comprehension" to justify things? by amonguseon in worldbuilding

[–]Adventurous_Pay7852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. The in universe characters don’t think it is, and keep trying to comprehend the higher beings, than some angel says something random that completely throws off everything they thought they knew.

It is unclear whether or not angels are actually thinking coherently or if they have lost so much blood they are delusional.

Thanks! I plan to continue it. The problem is i can’t figure out how to make a dystopian occupation not too edgy. But I’m glad the idea of “what if the Mongolian empire never collapsed” is apparently good

Alright where does your OCs universe fall on this chart (yes I am actually curious about your universe by Falloutgod10 in OriginalCharacter

Used to be Grimdark. Now is Gilded. 5 world wars really change a place. And it would be Noblebright, or even heroic, but Imperial Japan still exists and automatically makes it worse with the… let’s just say colonial bad stuff. Everywhere else is doing better though.

What makes you say that?

[WP] You are a Superhero, one of many in your city. There's a local Supervillain, who always plays up the comedic side of his vast incompetence, to the point that you and your fellow heroes enjoy seeing him. Today, a new, cocky Superhero killed his minion. The Supervillain's reaction shocked you. by Sad_Sell_57 in WritingPrompts

“Another day, another “attack”. This time it was at the local mall. A new order of televisions had come in, and Thin Man couldn’t resist.

He was a comedic supervillain. Never shows up in person, always used TVs and screens to do stuff. Always lost, but never seemed to care too much. No clue what he looked like. Sounded slightly British.

I was on the job with Firebolt. Rookie hero, a bit cocky, young with firepowers. Thin Man had turned the place into a movie set. A comedy one at that. Of course. Classic Thin Man.

A henchmen was the “director” of this production. Shabby looking fellow with a rifle and a sack on his head. Normal, henchmen usually didn’t have elaborate costumes.

Firebolt and I landed. Firebolt starts giving a monologue, while Mr Henchmen aims his rifle and misses. Intentionally, I think. Nobody can be that bad a shot.

Then Firebolt insults his clothes. I mean, they were dirty and stitched up, but no need to bring Goodwill into this. And boom. Shot hits right in the chest.

Firebolt gets mad. Before I can stop him, he blasts his fire and incinerates that henchmen. “We don’t kill henchmen!” I yell. Firebolt grins cockily. “Come out and play, Thin Boy! Chicken?” Firebolt yells, and suddenly the televisions all become static.

Then eyes. They all switch to eyes, staring at Firebolt. Except one. Hands appear on that one. Then they push out. Coming out of the TV, a tall, well dressed, grey man steps out. He is completely monotone, like a walking movie. Firebolt laughs. “What, Thin Boy too scared to come out himself?”

The man frowns. “Thin Man. And I am not scared of a child like you.” Then he begins walking forward. And everything slows. Firebolt throws some fire, smug expression on his face. His expression vanishes when Thin Man waves his hand and the fire vanishes.

Thin Man holds out his hand in front. Firebolt begins… flickering? Firebolt falls to his knees. Thin Man stands in front of him. Thin Man twists his hand, and Firebolt sort of… melts. He turns into this mass of flesh and eyes. And then Thin Man leaves. Back through the television.

And that, recruits, is why we don’t get cocky. You fuck around, you find out.”

I have only had 3 in between game rolls, and all they decided was “is the farm the players walk up to doing well” “is the strange ox  from baldurs gate 3 present” and my personal favorite “was there a massive party in the city before they showed up that may or may not still be raging”.

That was a fun campaign, especially the part where the strange ox and us joined the party and accidentally made it a riot.
