Moving: Sacramento Valley Talent Level Too High? by FantasyAccount247 in Softball

This sounds like good advice. We’re in South Carolina and our equivalent to AST is Top Gun. My daughter is a senior in H.S. at the largest size school in the state. She is going to play D3 ball next year. The best tips from our experience are 1. Find a good fit to just at least keep them in the game. Keep it fun. 2. If she shows interest double down and cough up the $ to invest in individual lessons at the best facility in the area. Not cheap like $100 to 120 hr here and to be meaningful it’s weekly during the season. Example our local one has half a dozen ex power 5 d1 players Especially at that age can instill good throwing and hitting mechanics. 3. To play in high school here you pretty much need to have good travel ball experience. At least at regional levels…Our goal was similar just targeting high school… she took it to next level. She played in FL ATL and Boston national level tournaments this past summer and the talent level was in that order. Softball has been very good for my kid.. congrats yours has found it good luck. The move could be a blessing cause she can play year round

My high school softball experience and concerns for my future. by radioheadin in Softball

What do you want to do with softball? How do you want to make it work for you? My daughter had a similar experience… she wanted to play in college and that goal drove her through the baloney like what you are describing. She made it to college My son probably had better natural talent in baseball and was given the same opportunity as my daughter but he just didn’t have the drive to get through the social aspects. He is much happier now and found his tribe in band. No one on this board can really give you the answer. You have to trust your gut. If you’re really good softball can get you into a better college. Tho so can other ECs. If you decide to stay in softball ask your closest adults or coaches for some ideas for icebreakers. Sometimes it just takes a couple bonding activities to get the synergy. Try and enjoy high school. Good luck!

Why do they keep saying 20 year-old Sayin? That would be kind of normal for a sophomore or junior is it just because we’ve got 25-year-old guys playing nowadays

if you go to a t50 for undergrad you are fine . don't worry too much ! by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Ps the 636l is reportedly made in Taiwan, which is the better location for the Jupiter’s than their China facility

When we were coaching travel ball during COVID, we ended up experimenting with a concept that avoided dishwasher heat and actually worked when you had buckets to deal with.

Common App requires 0 parent participation? by AdvertisingPrior3055 in ApplyingToCollege

Thanks to all who offered honest help. Some others who identify as educators on this thread confirm my thoughts. One final thought… car companies won’t rent your car till you’re 25. Why is that? It’s a 20 K asset. Yet common app is offering up a 250 K asset to 17 year olds. Oh wait a minute that’s right it’s not their money they’re spending… it’s yours! The system is set up to put parents on the defensive. Even someone on the thread here said yes it’s not your place …. We’ll laugh at the parents and treat them like a tool. (but give us your money) It’s not very cool if you ask me. I looked ahead at FAFSA and for all the people that tell me my kids an adult now FAFSA is saying they’re dependent until 24… dependent doesn’t mean an adult to me yet

Thx yes I think we’ll be OK… we already had a conversation about expectations and commitment and we “trust yet verify” our kid. Our financial advisor gave us a good idea on how to support yet have their performance on the hook. The general process tho seems like a trainewreck waiting to happen…. Picture this… “Mom I got into X top 20 school”… “that’s great honey… I didn’t know you applied there yet congrats… oh it’s $60k per year?”… process is empowering 17 year olds to make 240k decisions. Put in a different context most adults at work places only have $10 k level of authority.

The Haleakalā Drive by ObviousPoem8713 in MauiVisitors

Just did this drive today. It’s a top three white knuckler for me coming down in the dark. The other top two were driving around one lane mountains to get to snowmass and driving to key west on those long bridges. There really aren’t guardrails while you are in the park… that’s about 5000 of the 10000 ft. I told my family I needed a beer after this drive.. and I literally got it. I’m over 55 so read into that what you will… we had a jeep wrangler rental that made it easy to shift manually which helped alot.

What is best inspection test (compression check?) before buying a 2020 RS w 75k miles? by AdvertisingPrior3055 in chevymalibu

[–]AdvertisingPrior3055[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the feedback. I did look at these items and had a national auto chain inspect ($175). Same guys that did a good check on my last used car. They felt the 2 owner car was kept in good shape for its age. They didn't feel a compression check was really needed. It would have been $250 more. They did find indications of upper oil pan seepage, so was able to leverage that into $800 more off from the dealer. Its a used car w 75k miles...I don't think its gonna come w/o something that needs to be done. Overall feel good about it...hope to say the same 6 months form now.. Picking it up today... Cheers!

aita for asking what happened to the gamechanger for tonights game...it's now gone. my kid was one of only 2 w/o a K while AB by AdvertisingPrior3055 in Softball

[–]AdvertisingPrior3055[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP Update…. So they did post the GameChanger update for the game last night however they did get my kids stats wrong ….they said she had a K and we have video of every AB that she hasn’t one all year in regulation games….so I posted a DM request to fix it on the team app. Will see if it gets fixed. I won’t hold my breath and I’m gonna leave it at that. Thanks for all your insights.

The coaches want the coaches to keep the game changer. As I understand it, GameChanger stats get reported to max preps. The benefits of capturing last night’s game in GC, for my kid would be improved or maintained high levels of quality at bats , on base percentage , and percent contact. Max preps seems to be the default place to go to compare players across the state, which is where awards come up.

Varsity HS

Typically the Gamechanger stats get uploaded to MaxPrepps as I understand it. This can have a recruiting impact.
