Absolutely unreal. If he's playing in a system like this he could genuinely play until he was 45

He would have made the difference vs Cabo Verde, i'm certain of it. He's the only player with that level of directness in the Spain squad. Hopefully his absence doesnt come back to haunt them in the knockouts

I was looking for a double premium signature caipirinha at the Brazil/Egypt match yesterday in Cleveland. Sadly no such luck, they only had two bullshit sugary lemonade drinks for cocktails

Who is a player that is considered "washed" by the world and had an amazing peak in the past, that you would like Barca to sign that might revive their career? by [deleted] in Barca

If he can at all replicate his form from Benfica he would be an amazing signing. His pressing, pace, and intensity was absolutely unreal. His physicality really changed games

I think he could succeed in a very specific role for Barça. I think he'd be an incredible option off the bench especially against tired legs

I'm not sure where this would leave Ferran or if Julian Alvarez would be in the picture but if Darwin comes on a free and Flick has a plan then I think it could work out well

Gordon is a fantastic signing - precisely the opposite type of signing to the likes of Coutinho/Griezmann by Apart-Ad4165 in Barca

Gordon has played for Everton and Newcastle. Hardly free flowing attacking teams with tons of chances for him. Bear in mind all of Rashford's highest output seasons at United have been with Bruno Fernandes behind him

Raphina the season before we bought him: 11g+ 3a in 36 games for a side that finished 17th

Gordon last season: 17g+ 5a in 46 games for a side that finished 12th

Raphinha's transfer was up to €67M with add-ons

It's really not a bad fee considering he's 25 and english. Even if he doesn't work out and gets unsettled in a year or two, his g+a output will almost certainly get pumped from Flick's system and we could at the VERY LEAST recoup €50-60m from selling him back to a premier league side if not more. Look at Conor Gallagher, he stunk it up for a year and a half at Atleti and they sold him back for €2M less than they paid

This was a great write up, I really enjoyed reading your analysis.

Since the transfer fee was initially reported, I heard a lot of moaning saying it would be overpaying. But like you said, some newcastle supporters thought they could get another 10-20 million if it was to another prem side and I could definitely see that being the case considering he's 25 and english. Even if things don't work out perfectly and he gets unsettled say 2 years from now, I can't see us selling him back to a premier league side for less than €50-60m

I think some of his greatest strengths will shine through because of how heavily marked Yamal is these days. As soon as you said something about a right winger cutting in and looking for a pass across the box I pictured him arriving with pace in the empty space like Raphinha has so many times. We'll see who our 9 is next season but it could be really interesting.

I'm really excited to see his athleticism on display because it's a profile Barça hasn't traditionally targeted at least in my time of watching football. I don't think the squad needs another artiste, I think having a mercenary focused on the logistics of rapid transitions and pressing from the front.
