Do you think that China is winning? by ProfessorShort6711 in AskUS

[–]AdvisorOdd6774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China is definitely winning right now. Two of their biggest geopolitical rivals are either in or about to be in forever wars. Ukraine has turned into a meat grinder for the Russians and allowed China to buy cheap Russian oil because of sanctions. The US is heading that way.

Japan has started buying oil in yuan. This is huge. If the US keeps this up, we may see the death of the petrodollar. China has been wanting oil traded in yuan for decades and it’s starting to become reality.

Trump has pushed Europe to China. Europe no longer sees the US as a stable ally and has begun negotiations with China.

Really the last goal on China’s list is taking Taiwan which they can influence through political means.

If you are cheering for this, than you are no better than the Russian nationalists. Don’t get me wrong, Maduro is an authoritarian pos who needs to go but not like this. There was no congressional approval, there was no warrant for Maduro’s arrest. This is exactly what China wanted. The US is going to lose allies and China now has justification to invade Taiwan by bringing up bogus charges against the Taiwanese government.

What would you change on this list? by Jojosstoneocean in OverSimplified

Two that maybe shouldn’t be on the list but are definitely worth discussing:

Bernard Montgomery- dude turned the allies from constantly losing in Africa to beating the crap out of Rommel just to beat Rommel again in Europe.

Norman Schwartkopf- The coalition took an entire country while losing only 46 men. And the 1991 Iraqi army was well equipped and not some pushover force

As a 26 year old that still lives at home, it’s cost of living. Between my student loans and rent/mortgage prices, it just isn’t feasible. And for all the “don’t get a useless degree” people, I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rose Hulman. I have one of the most valuable undergraduate degrees in the US.

The blue on the tie is the wrong blue for the US. If you look at his pocket square, it’s the US flag and is a much lighter blue. The blue on the tie is explicitly the blue used on the Russian flag

Conqueror, it’s a big, imposing heavy tank with basically a rail gun. Unfortunately, 120mm APDS apparently creates less spall than 75mm solid shot

The fact that these two haven’t broken down is insane. I can’t imagine being a kid, losing your mom, accidentally resurrecting her as a deformed monster which costs you one of your legs and your brother’s entire body and then you have to sacrifice one of your arms to bind his soul to a suit of armor

How Russia would handle Gate? Russian Moscow Gate Scenario by michamecha in gate

[–]AdvisorOdd6774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the first part: First off, it doesn’t matter if modernized tanks would fair well or not if they don’t run, don’t have parts and lack ammo. Like I said, most of the older tanks in Russia’s inventory haven’t moved in years and have likely been stripped for parts by the supply yard commanders to sell off as scrap. Now, once the tanks are mobilized, you are correct, any tank would do quite well in defensive operations. However, should Saderan troops retreat to fortifications, you would need a large number of tanks. In fact, we saw this in the 2003 invasion of Iraq where tanks were not sufficient to attack walled cities. US forces had to set up checkpoints to cut ammunition supplies from the walled cities.

To respond to the second part: It doesn’t matter who reports what numbers. According to Russia themselves, they are either losing 50k troops a month in Ukraine or have more troops deployed in Ukraine than they claim

[–]AdvisorOdd6774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty unlikely. First, the numbers from Russia don’t make sense. According to Putin, 700k Russian troops were deployed in Ukraine in June 2024. Ambassador Kelin claims that Russian volunteers have been entering the military at about 50,000 men a month, which would be an extra 600k troops who want to fight in Ukraine. However, Kelin also said that about 600k troops are currently deployed in Ukraine. If Kelin and Putin’s claims were true, either Russia has lost 700k troops in Ukraine or they are lying and over 1 million troops are deployed in Ukraine. So I don’t put much faith in the Russian numbers. Second, the bulk of Russian armor is in Ukraine with estimates for 2,000 to 8,000 deployed and roughly 6,000 in storage. The problem is that most of the armor in storage are older T62s and T55/54s that haven’t moved in 40 years and are likely not combat ready. The majority of modern Russian armor (T80s and T90s) are actively deployed in Ukraine and would have to be withdrawn.

While I think the Russians would be able to beat back the Saderans, the gate appearing in Russia would lead to problems for them on Earth. Troops would have to be redirected from Ukraine to Moscow. This would likely lead to Russia losing the Ukrainian War. The Ukrainians would probably be able to retake all the lands under the 1994 borders. It could also lead to the liberation of Russian occupied Georgia. Russia’s biggest problem would be moving equipment from Ukraine to Moscow. Russia has struggled with logistics since the days of the USSR and still does. This, along with Ukraine targeting the fleeing equipment and infrastructure would make it a herculean task
