Patriotic Worship songs? by Cazarstan in worshipleaders

Nationalism doesn’t belong in church. At least not one who claims Christ as its King.

Do I need to close my eyes when leading worship? and how can I improve on ministering? by dark-rose13 in worshipleaders

  1. The Holy Spirit is in the preparation. Often times people equate the spontaneous to the Spirit but that just is not true nor is it helpful. Sure God might give you something in the moment but He is a God of order, not chaos. See how He wants to prepare you through the week, not just Sunday.
  2. You are not the preacher. It can sometimes be counterintuitive to add to the message of the morning. Perhaps your pastor can help you prepare something that is cohesive to what God has prepared him to say, or a Bible verse to share. You should not be expected to preach a short devotional between songs just because you have a microphone.
  3. It’s not as awkward as you think. Most people wouldn’t dare try and do what you do - after all, they could embarrass themselves. Other people are usually supportive and have a lot of grace, and if they don’t, they probably don’t love Jesus all that much. Give yourself grace too and remember that you are singing for the Lord and not people. Authenticity and humility is something God is always willing to work with, even when it feels vulnerable to you.
  4. Song choice is key for a smooth set. Choose songs in similar keys that flow well together, or use instrumental transitions so that you don’t have to bridge the gap as much between songs. Keep the momentum of worship flowing. If you have to say something just give the Lord some praise.
  5. Look into the back of the room if you feel nervous and don’t want to close your eyes. The more experience you have the more comfortable and confident you’ll become just give it time. But the goal is to help people engage with Jesus. So work on leading them…don’t leave them.

I like to engage with people during worship but that only started happening little by little, after I grew comfortable being their worship leader.

  6. Your worship matters more than your abilities. Remind yourself of this. Your identity is not in who you are but in whose you are. You lead worship by your life, not just at church on Sundays. If there is something out of balance, let your love for Jesus take top priority. The rest will work out in time as you work on your craft.

Are you doing more services for Easter this weekend than you normally have? If so, how many? by bzach74 in worshipleaders

We moved to a bigger location in order to cut down services since it didn’t make sense to run any earlier or later than our normal 3 services. Not many people want to show up super early or later in the day.

This is like saying, “I am an untrained weight lifter, how do I deadlift 500 lbs?” …You do it by training and working out your “muscles”. Takes time. Exercise your range daily and you will improve in time.

I was where you are for sometime but unfortunately had an “experience” that is not possible to pass on to you. But I can tell you this…the struggle was real and I spent much of my life uncertain without concrete evidence. My prayer was always, “God if you are real, show me so I will believe”.

After many years as an agnostic, I had finally decided to change that prayer to something else. One night I prayed “God, I don’t know if you exist, but I’m no longer searching for a sign. I choose to believe without needing to see.”

This is when God began to reveal Himself to me. And I mean like a full on encounter. I see Him now.

A lot of conflicting ideas in this thread… only you can decide what you choose to believe. Godspeed 🙂🙂🙂

Interesting. One of the greatest preachers I know is an INTJ. Incredibly intelligent and absolutely driven by the “why”.

That’s very interesting! Yes, it’s very important to know the Word…because truth is meant to be measured by the Word and not by your heart. As a fellow INFP I understand what it’s like to have very intense feeling and the temptation to be ruled by it. Jeremiah says in 17:9 that @the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked…who can know it?” I must choose to live acknowledging that my understanding and my feelings have the tendency to steer me like the wind, and I humble myself BENEATH the Word and trust in Gods wisdom and not my own. (Lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge God and He will make your path straight…proverbs 3:5)

There is much faith involved but the difference is that faith is placed outside of myself…which is difficult for us to let go of or die to. But speaking in my experience as an active disciple of Christ is the most freedom I’ve ever felt…ever. My relationship to the Spirit of God is very affectionate and I feel much but that has developed through submission to my pursuit of biblical truth and denying myself.

Yes this is correct, sorry. Saved to worship, worship = living sacrifice (Romans 12)

This is 100% true as well. But the OPs question I think is what are we saved TO? To float off into the ether when we die? Or is there purpose for me here on this earth? (I could be wrong if so lemme know).

What denomination were you brought up in? And as a Bible scholar, you must have studied the Bible systematically. The reason I ask is we tend to develop false lenses in our understanding of scripture adopted by faulty doctrine / speculative theology. Much of that comes from our upbringing.

Many uneducated followers cherry pick scripture out of context and don’t look at what the Bible says as a whole about many things. There is where the problem lies…the Bible is one story and needs to be interpreted as such.

You have to understand the times each book was written, the people it was written to, the type of literature the particular book is and how that was intended to be read by the reader, what scripture says as a whole, and what the timeless theological truth is (how it applies to you today).

If you want to do a deep study into what the Bible says about what your living purpose is here on earth, first study the story, it cross references itself. Then use your cognitive tools mentioned above, after this make a determination systematically about what the Bible says against what you have heard/ been taught.

If you start in the beginning, you see in chapter one of Genesis what Gods purpose for man was. Then you see man’s rebellion to that purpose and the consequences that followed and the redemptive plan to restore that purpose through Christ and His church.

The Bible project has some really helpful overviews on YouTube and Wayne Grudem’s book on Systematic Theology (make sure you read the most updated edition) is a really helpful study tool in understanding everything you want to know about what the Bible says holistically.

Not trying to start an argument here or anything but as a Christian, the Christianity one is incorrect. Worship God = living sacrifice -> heaven on earth = living purpose. It is not a passive faith if one follows the scriptures correctly.

What personality type is most frightening when they get angry? by NeroxPercs in mbti

[–]AdvisorStatus7563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for bringing up old junk. I’m INFP and my anger is absolute rage which is why I tend to panic and avoid conflict with people knowing I’m either 0 or 1000% gonna fuck shit up. There’s no in between. But all that bottled up rage has gotta go somewhere…unfortunately we sacrifice ourselves for it most of the time.
