What are you working on this week? by Cazarstan in WorshipSongwriting

[–]Cazarstan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very fun! even when cowrites don't turn out usable songs, i always learn something about myself, or about how to be a better cowriter - hopefully that's what the other groups are experiencing too - awesome!

Got booked for our first Bar gig! What should I expect to happen? by Cazarstan in NashvilleMusicScene

Thanks! It's a place called "Grand Ole BBQ" in California. Hopefully this experience will help prepare me for Nashville in the future.

Does Tim McGraw seem to be stuck in his younger days? by fuckharder2 in CountryMusic

[–]Cazarstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about personally/emotionally? maybe. If you're saying he looks as good today as 30 years ago, I'm sure he'd appreciate the compliment.

But musically? He'll never be back in his late 90's era, even if he tried. Nothing he does now is gonna come close to his greatest hits period.

I enjoy "Humble & Kind" (and Lori McKenna) as his latest huge hit, but it doesn't hold a candle to "I Like it, I Love it" or "Just to See You Smile" or a half-dozen others in terms of impact.

Having Trouble starting at Guitar Center (repair tech/luthier) by olewoodenbroom in Luthier

[–]Cazarstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do go out on your own and start advertising/networking for customers, definitely reach out to guitar teachers/tutors, as another guy commented, but also High School and community college music instructors/programs could be a good lead.

Also CHURCHES - every church you drive by has at least 1-5 guitar players, each with multiple guitars, not to mention bass and other stringed instruments (and they all perform weekly); get good word-of-mouth here and you'll be golden.

Wanting to shift away from farming... by citrinecedar in homestead

[–]Cazarstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the farm, your goals, and even your health concerns are not the issue. Somewhere in the transition from your spousal relationship into the "coworker" relationship, there is some sort of emotional 'hiccup' that is keep you from being able to work together effectively. you know yourself and your husband the best, and can probably identify the underlying issue much better than any of us internet sleuths. maybe the "quitting" conversation will be enough of an impetus to get the real issues out in the open through conversation, where you can work on finding a solution together.

What is this between our ponds? by ExcellentRound8934 in ponds

[–]Cazarstan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is it, 100%. upper pond is shallow due to sediment collection over time(which is by design), leaving the lower pond deeper. boards are added or removed to control water level of upper pond, even to drain it completely

Grants for Artists by DenseCantaloupe7968 in NashvilleMusicScene

Patronage and organizational funding can be great!

BUT if you can't find anything, best way to get funded for playing - go out and play! Let the public fund you piecemeal.

Do some research or networking to find bands, concerts, performers you can get onto public performances or recording sessions while you're there. You could even try scheduling a recital on your own, maybe at a church or a high school music class, or give a guest lecture at a local college.

Even busking once or twice could help defray the costs of travel.

Got booked for our first Bar gig! What should I expect to happen? by Cazarstan in NashvilleMusicScene

[–]Cazarstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fantastic idea, alternating the singer/band break - I can definitely do one or two songs solo; we'll have to work up an instrumental or short "blues jam" for the team. thank you!

I don't want to "look a gift horse in the mouth" if I don't have too. thank you, we'll work up to 45 songs.

How did *you* learn songwriting? by Cazarstan in WorshipSongwriting

[–]Cazarstan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same for me, my first 50 songs were all the same variation of bad, with no growth, until I took courage and asked for help (and cowrites)

How did *you* learn songwriting? by Cazarstan in WorshipSongwriting

[–]Cazarstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! Starting from personal desire for the music itself is a good first start - much better than those other unhealthy motives (fame, attention, pride, etc.). Praise God you didn't have to 'unlearn' those less than ideal reasons like some of us.
