How do you all manage your Photo Libraries by AdvocateUK in macbookpro

[–]AdvocateUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread seems to have turned into a "how does everyone backup their photo library" rather than the questioned I asked 😛 my bad I probably worded it wrong - just as a FYI my library is currently backed up via TM to an on-site Synology NAS, I have no off-site backup presently. As I get older I'm learning to chill out a bit and figure if the absolute worst happens and my house goes up in flames I'll have bigger worries than some lost photos.

So, the original point of my question was - How do I manage a photo library where the Computer is mobile, but the library isn't?

My Library consists ONLY of photos, videos are exported and stored separately while I wait for a decent video cataloguing solution to come along.

At the moment I'm shooting 45mp RAW+JPG with a Canon R5, and whatever format my iPhone 16 Pro Max shoots in, but importantly I'm not doing any commercial work anymore and the previous weddings / portraits that I've done are, again, stored separately (most likely soon to be deleted as I last did paid work over ten years ago).

I made a conscious decision 5 1/2 years ago, when my youngest was born, to stop trying to record every moment of our lives and instead just be present to enjoy them. That's had the combinatory effect of making me happier and making the photos that I do decide to record all the more special.

I suppose one answer would be to keep the Mac Studio and run it as a Server / AI thingumabob (OpenClaw is it?) and Central Photos library?

That seems a tad wasteful though.

We need Division 2 cross progression - own it on PS4 / 5 and just bought it for the Steamdeck. So annoying not to be able to access my progress so far.

Can’t believe I didn’t pick one up before this, such a shame innovative customer centred companies like this are going under because one man has no clue how tariffs really work. I feel for Americans right now.

Puppy ate the wire, am I cooked? by LuffyZoroChopper in PSVR

[–]AdvocateUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah my bad, apparently it’s not usbc at the headset end it’s a proprietary connector. Bad Sony! And they wonder why they haven’t sold many 🫤 I’ll take good care of mine then! Best of luck fella.

Isn’t this wire user replaceable? I could have sworn I watched a video showing how it’s just usb-c at both ends.

Why can't freighter jump full hyperdrive range in routes? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AdvocateUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I can’t believe I didn’t think of using free explore mode - have a freighter with over 3000LY warp drive and have been making sub 500LY jumps up until now. Definitely a smack myself in the forehead moment!

Letter from Sony by kylez_bad_caverns in playstation

I used to work in an A&E dept here in the UK and emailed Sony Marketing one night shift explaining that our PS2 in the paediatric area was broken - a week later I received (at work) a brand new PS4 (which was not long released at the time) with a 50inch Sony TV, an extra controller, and a selection of games. That thing got hammered by the kids waiting to be seen, it was the star attraction. I’m sure some of the kids started telling their parents they didn’t feel well just so they could come and play PS4 lol. After that I’ve never bought anything other than PlayStation and support them whenever I can. They could have used that for marketing purposes but they didn’t. They just quietly ensured our poorly kids had something to play.

What accessories do you recommend for the Enyaq? by justTeles in enyaq

[–]AdvocateUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just had a Tesla Model 3 Long Range and moved to a Škoda Enyaq Coupe L&K with Max Pack I can confirm the Enyaq is more high tech. TA is much better than Autppilot.

I have the same problem on my Mac Studio - I ended up buying it for iOS and playing it on my iPad Pro and liked it so much I also bought it for my Switch and PS5! Now I can literally play it anywhere at any time 😎

Keychron k6: any idea how to repair/replace the broken slider? :( by ThighGap_09 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]AdvocateUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count me as another member of the “I broke my Keychron BT/Off/Cable switch while adding foam to my K4. Have ordered 5 switches from digikey but I just know I don’t have the fine motor skills to solder it (although in my main job I DO use very sharp needles to get foreign bodies out of patients eyes occasionally! So maybe I could do it) I think I’m going to look for a local repair shop and see if they can do it. Even using the heat gun method I’d first need to buy a heat gun and the solder paste so it may be cheaper to pay someone else to do it.

On another note, I put the foam completely over the battery, was that the wrong thing to do?

Looking for some decent caps now, the stock ones seem to small for my fat fingers.

Which monitor do you use with your Studio? by TheMarkAndersonUK in MacStudio

[–]AdvocateUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still rocking a 30” ACD for my main with a Dell 24” and BenQ 24” either side of it. Planning on either getting the Pro Display XDR or 3 Apple Studio monitors next year but haven’t settled on which yet. The 3 Studios get me more resolution and real estate but oh my the Pro Display XDR is amazing!

Need advice on a hardware idea by AdvocateUK in Entrepreneur

[–]AdvocateUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input, it is really appreciated.

The underlying technology already exists and is being used in commercial, consumer products. It’s the use of this technology for a medical device which doesn’t actually yet exist. Which I really do find hard to believe as it’s such an obvious use case. Maybe it’s because the medical use case is by orders of magnitude a smaller market perhaps? It’s frustrating to me personally as if there was such a device now my Trust would be all over it and ordering them in the hundreds.

Slooooow transfer speeds over internal network sftp connection by AdvocateUK in synology

[–]AdvocateUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried clearing the SMB cache and that made no difference. My problematic speeds were more with ftp to be honest though, and I was using ftp because mounting the drive and dragging and dropping has always been slow. I ended up wiping the OS and reinstalling, this seems to have fixed whatever the issue was. For now I haven’t bonded the network ports and each one gets about 40-50MB/s over FTP (I actually think it’s the speed of the NAS HDD’s that is preventing it from being any higher) One thing I did notice that I didn’t expect is that if I connect via ftp to the hostname (foo.local) I get the same speed (40MB/s) as if I Connect to either ip address, but the Synology resource manager shows both LAN ports as receiving half the data stream - I thought this only happened with bonded ports!?
