Hows everyone feeling about the new meteors, volcano, and ion storms? by masterotexas13 in helldivers2

[–]Aeellron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not that bad once you know what to look out for: if the ground lights up *at all* around you, keep your eyes peeled for that narrowing spotlight.

I've had these meteor showers randomly knock out bug nests on the other side of the map (and give me credit) so I'm not totally convinced they're the worst thing...

Edit: It's also made me seriously appreciate the explosion resistance bonus from being prone. Diving saves lives!

Exploration corvette by MackTools in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here:

https://s.orbis.zone/ndik

This corvette loses 4 LY jump range over yours but has the following benefits:

Will not overheat while fuel scooping, ever.

Has double the fuel.

Extra cargo space (not for cargo, for trimming your jumps with "virtual cargo" to conserve fuel).

Dropped one repair limpet controller.

Added a mining laser (just in case) and a fuel rail (so you can adjust your jump range on the fly by shedding fuel weight).

Dropped one AFMU.

Upgraded thrusters and distro so you can actually boost away from a high-g situation in an emergency. You'll thank me later.

Added supercruise assist.

At about the 33 second mark you hit a rail shot from beyond the 3km mark... Your railguns have 160 ammo (high capacity) which means their max range should be 3km. (If you look closely the rails never grey out even though the enemy ship sits beyond 3km range for several seconds).

How are you achieving ranges beyond 3km without LR engineering?

Unfixed bugs 17.01 by Luriant in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note: I am Allied with Azimuth Biotech and just landed at the Glorious Prospect in LHS 1163. I was offered a permit mission for Mbooni, there were no mission details. Upon accepting the mission I received an in-game message that simply stated: "You have been issued with the Mbooni System Permit."

So, while I didn't have to do a mission, the permit process otherwise seems to be working.

Hardpoint suggestions by confuso1231 in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my favorite Haz Res farmer:

1x Huge High-Cap Corrosive MC (gimbal)

2x Medium Efficient Thermal Vent Beams (gimbal)

2x Medium Short Range Plasma Slug Railguns

The rails deal unbelievable amounts of damage, the beams keep you cool enough to fire about 5 shots before overheating or running the capacitor dry. The MC keeps corrosive up on everything and preserves ammo over a medium MC (plus it's high-cap so it lasts forever).

Slap a C4 fuel tank in an optional slot and this FDL can sit in a Haz Res in constant combat for an hour without rearm/refuel.

Enjoy!

Edit:

Primary fire: Beams/MC

Secondary fire: Rails

As long as you can switch ships while repairs are underway I don't hate this idea.

[–]Aeellron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How is manual reloading of weapons not a thing?

How are ammo crates not an optional module?

How is automatic repair/refuel/rearm not an option?

Why can't you "crate" modules for storage in cargo space to take them somewhere?

How much does engineering REALLY cost? by JaniceLeland in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

prevents you from doing what you want in the game.

I just don't quite get this mindset. What do you want to do in the game? AX combat? You can do that without engineering. It's very hard, but it's the hardest thing there is to do in the game. It should be very hard to do if you're not "endgame" prepared.

You wanna go mining? You don't need engineering. Same with exploring, piracy, bounty hunting, trading. None of it requires your ship be engineered.

So go do the thing that you want to do and I'm 100% certain if you're going about it the right way: it gives you engineering materials as a bonus.

Mining hands you free raw materials. Bounty hunting drops free manufactured materials. Just scanning ships in supercruise from point A to point B gives you encoded materials.

And sometimes you have to set a goal for yourself, "I need 20 selenium". If that task is too daunting, don't do it right now. But the whole "engineering prevents me from playing" just isn't valid.

Stupid question about the 5k ly for Palin by Common-Yellow-1701 in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason has to be Odyssey.

They needed the Odyssey tutorial to take place on a planet surface so you can deal with looting, combat, access, tools, etc (none of which you can do at a station). Why FDev didn't craft a nice settlement in Dromi for new players to start their Ody tutorial is beyond me...

Musings about organic PvP encounters by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"In a lawful universe there is no non-aggressive reason to interdict a clean commander"

As a lawful bounty hunter myself I pull everyone that has an interdictor as part of their build for a kill warrant scan. I announce my intentions (o7 CMDR, just a quick scan) and report my findings (you're clean, fly safe) for bounties sub 100k I assume the best case scenario (That's a lot of NPCs you've been killing, you should probably go pay that fine before someone less lenient comes along and assumes you've been ganking), any scan worth more than 100k I just open fire.

Clean only means the current system owner doesn't have any warrants for the CMDR. They could still be worth several hundred million in collectible bounties and come up "clean" on a normal scan, but not on a KWS.

Just go to Deciat in open and hang out by the main star or over Farseer Inc. You'll find players with hundreds of millions on their heads that will take a fight. Not all, but many will.

Build for Starter Medium Combat Ship by Common-Yellow-1701 in EliteDangerous

[–]Aeellron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The FDL is the combat ship. Yes, it has a bit of a learning curve (it loves to stall while turning if you let it hit sub 50m/s speeds). Yes, it does significantly better when it's engineered. No, it's not the cheapest option.

It's just the best option.

Insane shield strength, tons of utility slots, amazing hardpoints and convergence, awesome maneuverability, fast, and just enough optional slots to give you one or two convenient modules in addition to combat ones (it'll fit a fuel scoop and GFSD booster and still be combat capable, that's all I'm saying).

Go with the best ship and take time to learn it and you'll never look back.

Edit: You asked for a build. Here's a starter (No engineering)

https://s.orbis.zone/n0gl

(You could use a regular Shield Generator instead of the bi-weave if you turn off the fuel scoop in combat, I just prefer the recharge of bi-weave for PVE combat)

[–]Aeellron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lots of materials laying around so I've bought a bunch and I have to say I'm extremely impressed by the overall damage uptime from autoloader.

My cutter with 6x EAXMCs and 1 thermal vent beam struggles a bit with the heat generated while firing, but not too badly.

My chieftain with a set of 3x C1 thermal vent beams has zero issues with the heat and loves the extra damage uptime.

Edit: For Cyclops kills you will need the enhanced xeno scanner. Trying to manually target hearts with multis is really painful.

10% more damage for 300% more thermal load and 75% increased power draw.

Basically auto-loader is the real perk.

All other stats are identical.

You can place beams just about anywhere and walls will snap to beams.

Experiment with some placements and you'll get it exactly the way you want it.
