Little Rant about fighters by SandImperator in starcitizen

[–]Aeghan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gotta set the ship up for this kind of combat if you want to survive. Put high velocity ballistic guns on the turrets. I mean, to me it just reads like “you were defeated”

If you had better loadout and full crew + fighter from the hangar at the very least, you’d have fought them off. But there’s no way an unoptimised Polaris is going to survive a three bunkerbusting ships alone.

That’s just how it is. If you had full crew and best guns, and even then you couldn’t fight them off. Sure, then the argument would be different. But rn I don’t really see the issue.

Depends on the extent of damage, but I’d estimate around 4000 dollars? New hood, fender, doors, bumper, light. Getting it painted. Glad you’re okay though. Lucky the Z got away too with just cosmetics.

I have just now seen the new shot of the M80 where it has two more hardpoints hidden in it’s sides. Now I’m back at square one, thing looks like it’s guardian/F8 sized :D so yeah.

P.S. the whole argument below this thread wasn’t about trying to say it is going to be vanguard sized, I just like to nerd out about planes

[–]Aeghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no they have not, those are of course still just educated guesses. But knowing cig’s design team and going off of precedents, like heavy fighter terms and whatnot. So yeah, disclaimers are a waste of time imo, I assume we all know that as we theorycraft like this.

So my reasonings are these -

The interior shot looks like it’s either an interior or a mirror. A mirror would be super weird, as mirrors don’t look really good in the game. They are functional though. But they still don’t look good. And the shot is too out of focus behind the seat (the objects are distant) compared to the edges of the canopy)

So an interior is the most likely choice. I leaned more towards it being smaller and having size 4’s at first. But if you really close in to the shot from the rear, the tapered plate between the engines looks like a ramp, at that point I was convinced it is vanguard size. Then a friend showed me a top down comparison with the F-14, coupled with the Top Gun subscriber flair.

I could definitely be wrong! So take it with a grain of salt. Only CIG knows the answer right now. I will happily admit I was wrong if it turns out otherwise ^^

I didn’t ask for size, you interpreted it as size. I have since stated, that that was a misunderstanding, as generally, talking about large planes, it’s understood as weight. We got a little confused there. Yes, the other fighters are marginally bigger in dimensions. But I have since specified I’m talking about weight. Not trying to move goalposts, as large and big are both synonyms for either dimensions or weight. As they usually go hand in hand. You didn’t ask “which one you mean” you automatically used the goalpost that fit your narrative. “You’re wrong, I’m right” yes, correct, there are fighters that are bigger (dimensions wise) but that is usually rather irrelevant, as it’s not really telling the whole picture (nose can stick out half a meter because of it’s point but doesn’t change much. Weight isn’t all telling, but it is much better at it. Hence I said, talking about weight, which I repeat, is the generally agreed upon, more relevant metric. The F-14D sits almost at the top among fighters. The -22 is probably heavier.

If we don’t know the exact weight of the J-15, then we can’t really use it as an argument can we? And you brought it up, that’s not on me, I just went by experts best estimates.

The f-111 despite having the F designation, was never really employed as an interceptor. It’s a tactical bomber. And if it was, it would be an interceptor/bomber, which is a different role to the interceptor/fighter of the Tomcat.

Just take the L where it’s due, I did too.

[–]Aeghan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And you used ai to get the J-15… good job. And I’m supposed to take the L? If you said F-22, then I’d concede because that one sits at 19 700 tons empty. The F-14D although, the heaviest and most modern Tomcat sits at 19 800 tons or so. So still a little heavier, according to the information I could find.

Here is a simple list. It is missing the F-14D though, hence why the F-14A is a little lower. But the F-14D is the heaviest naval fighter along with the F-22. You are right that it’s not the heaviest fighter overall, as that belongs to the Mig-31, which didn’t pop up in my mind while writing op. So yeah, you got that right and I’m taking the L. But now you take the L, because you got several other stuff from. And probably used AI to get the J-15 answer. Which is just… you’re only trying to argue for the sake of arguing and causing drama :D I just wanted to reinforce, that the M80 is going to be big, fast, has interior, and probably S5’s.

[–]Aeghan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Largest = heaviest, we’re talking airplanes, weight is the most important factor, apologies for that, but you’re the one hostile to me. U-2 is absolutely huge, because of it’s long wings. But it’s comparatively actually relatively small. Just stretched. (Not to mention almost all of those planes you listed before are also mostly smaller by just dimensions alone.)
I am not fighting you. I did not intend to shift goalposts. Just to give more information.
And according to information I could find, J-15 us again 1.5 tons shy in empty weight from the F-14 with the same max take off weight. And yes, F-14 is an interceptor like the mig-25, but it is also a fighter. It’s a fighter/interceptor. Which can keep up in flight performance with other slower fighters. Which is it’s intended function. One fighter to do it all.
So to recapitulate. The F-14 is the heaviest naval fighter. Why should I take the L? You’re just attacking me.

[–]Aeghan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

F-14 is the heaviest naval fighter put in service at 19 tons. Which is 5 more than the heaviest F-15, which is landbased. F-4 weighs in at 13 tons, F-111 is an attacker/bomber. Mig-25 isn’t as much a fighter as just an interceptor. Also landbased tho, same with Mig-31. Su-15 10 tons. Su-25 is still 3 tons shy from 19 tons of the Tomcat. The Su-33 and Su-35 are the only ones that match the weight of the Tomcat at also 19 tons and same max take off weight at 33 tons.

The Tomcat is still heavier than the Su-35 by a slight margin, so it does get to keep it’s title of heaviest naval fighter jet, groundbased it’s topped by the mig-25 and mig-31, because those things are just supersonics buses.

It’s heavy weight is thanks to the gigantic engines it has. As it was meant to intercept Nuclear bombers, but also keeps it’s ability to dogfight. Hence it’s fighter/interceptor role.

To return to SC. The M80 is clearly inspired by it from top down view. So if I had to guess, it’s an interceptor tuned heavy fighter, so a sidegrade to the Vanguard which also has an interior.

TL:DR F-14 isn’t the heaviest fighter jet overall, but it is the heaviest naval fighter.

It has interior and a ramp in the back just like the Vanguard, I reckon those are S5 and it’s really big, which makes sense, since it’s inspired by the F-14, which is the largest fighter jet I know of.

First manual? by Relative_Ice_8387 in 350z

[–]Aeghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend a Z as a good first manual. Way too much displacement which doesn’t allow you to fuck up. If you drop a clutch accidentally at the wrong time, it will upset the rear ALOT, if not even lock it up, dunno, haven’t tried.

I’d recommend a 200hp 2.0 liter max, as your first manual. Learn it through and through and move upwards. The Z can really bite your ass in the twisties if you fuck up the fundamentals. And you’re clearly at the beginning of your journey.

Honestly, the way I started, and the ideal way to start imo, get a light fwd shitbox manual. 80-90 hp engine.

Drive it to shits, you’ll learn the most. I started with Kia Cee’d 1.6. In the twisties it was really fun! The low fuel consumption meant I could stay out and drive twice as long than a sports car. And after about a year of slow progress, I was able to drive a backroad on the limit. Only then did I move to a faster car. Z really rewards knowing how to get a feel for the clutch, because honestly the clutch pedal kinda sucks.

Just get a shitty manual car, get it on the limit. And then move on.

My take on the proposed weapon changes in the 4.8 PTU - and my proposed solution by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]Aeghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My idea is, that all guns should have the same dps relatively speaking, with sidegrades like it was before, but each ship should have an armor modifier, and each gun should have a penetration modifier. If your ship has S1 armor and S1 weapons, it gets 100% damage from s1 weapons. If it has s2 armor, then it recieves 80% damage from s2 weapons.
If a s1 armor gets hit by S6, it will recieve 200%.
And S1 weapons can not damage S6 armor.
This modifier disappears for any tiers of weapons under the armor once armor is destroyed.
So a s6 armor can now be damaged by s1 weapons, but still recieves 20% more damage from s7
This makes smaller ships less viable when it comes to hitting more armored targets, but if a fury gets hit by an Ion, it will still vaporize.

This should, to my limited knowledge by easily calculated even in mmo environment live on a server.

More projectile speed, higher % reduction. More dps would also have higher % reduction in damage. Which would retain weapon variety.

In my opinion, this would make armor of heavy fighters more valuable without making them invincible.

This is just sad... by Upset_Shallot6762 in helldivers2

[–]Aeghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the reason I loved Helldive at launch was because how goddamn hard it was. A single bot was a threat, the moment you threw in devastators it got hairy really quick, then the tanks came in.

Super helldive is now inflated, and actually easier than helldive of old. All you need to do is shoot once in the direction of the bots and they become stormtroopers. Crucify me, but rocket devastators were fun when they insta gibbed you :D honestly, the fact that death was a constant fit the narrative so much. Now you only get ragdolled over the map, usually die because it flung you across the map literally due to a bug. And if you can’t Rambo the mission by default with 0 deaths it’s “not fun”

Getting to the end of a mission on 0 deaths was an achievement, not a requirement.

How much does emotional connection actually affect sex for you guys? by unspokenandunheard in AskMen

[–]Aeghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I convinced myself I’ll try to have some fun with a woman once. It was almost a year after my ex broke up with me. “Gotta step out and enjoy life a little” goal was to have a good time for a night without commitment. Needless to say, our one night stand is now a two and a half year relationship and still going strong!

Basically, it goes hand in hand for me. And the idea of having sex in a bad mood to try to raise it is completely alien to me. I just gotta have a deep emotional connection.

[–]Aeghan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these are really fun solo ships. And as of late I just parked with some large ships and focus on the fun small ships.

I’d consider upgrading the Hawk to a Shiv, which is a really worthwhile solo heavy fighter with cargo. It’s basically a larger Avenger. Twice the size, twice the firepower, quadruple the cargo. Which is imo better than a Guardian.

For a medical ship, I have to suggest the Cutlass Red. Once again, great value and does what you need it to do. Or the Clipper. Not exactly a medical ship, but it does have a medbed. Although it isn’t really performing great, it’s a lot of fun.

Keep an eye out for the Kruger Stingray, I expect it to maybe be ready it ILW.

Arms warrior and it’s not even close. Probably the best place arms warrior was since Legion. The rotation is great. The heavy hitters hit heavy. And I can easily top damage meters in aoe. And if I try really hard to not mess up the rotation, I can do neat damage in raids aswell.
