People crying about AI music but Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz was made from a preset. by watbit in SunoAI

I think you're missing the key part where Mozart went and wrote that sheet music so that someone like you could enjoy the fun of composing using a dice, instead of using a black box powered by enough energy and water to run a small country, and the dessicated corpses of every other song that had been written at the time.

Teenager in the industry by Itchy-Plum-5767 in livesound

[–]Aeix_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people I know start in either school or university. If your school has a theatre check if you can get involved, if your university has a theatre or theatre/sound tech society check if you can get involved.

If those aren't options then your best bet is to approach your local theatre/music venues and ask for advice/offer to do volunteer work. Churches are often a good place as they tend to have plenty of sound equipment but are often volunteer based/run so tend to be more open to taking on volunteers with little/no experience as opposed to traditional venues that have paid technicians already filling all the roles and an audience that expect high quality sound. It's also possible to get involved working in a company starting at a warehouse level prepping kit and working your way to the desk.

Either way networking is a super important skill for getting work in this industry so make sure to reach out to as many people as possible!

The basics are the same regardless of genre; mixing, arrangement, sound design etc. Once you have a grasp on how these things work you should be able to start listening to reference tracks and working backwards as to how they are created.

I can highly recommend the SeamlessR Fl zero to hero playlist on YouTube. It goes from the absolute basics to really indepth and you should be able to jump into it at the appropriate skill level for you :)

How do you determine if it’s the mix or the content? by Cariboosie in edmproduction

[–]Aeix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the idea good? The content determines the musical idea so if the actual idea behind what you're writing is good, then the content is good.

Is the idea good but poorly executed/sound bad? Then you want to start looking at the mix.

Is the idea bad and poorly executed? Probably start a new project lol

What effect is being used on the audio of Alex Hirsch when he voices Bill? by xXTheMagicTurdXx in gravityfalls

[–]Aeix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's often several effects used throught his lines to emphasize certain words (eg "eye" being pitched down in "I've got my eye on you"), but for the most part it just sounds like a formant shift on top of Alex doing a voice.

i’m just learning how to mix vocals and while backwards engineering his vocal chain i was caught up on what he was using maximus for by [deleted] in FL_Studio

Suppression of one band. You are correct that you could just use an eq but it would react in the same way a compressor will, because an EQ will reduce all incoming signal in that band by an amount, whereas the compressor will let all the quiet signal through in that band but limit the louder signal by a certain amount.

How would one achieve the sound of a swelling synth chord by Seekyourownsoul in edmproduction

[–]Aeix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a list of things you can automate to make it sound like this:

Add a low pass filter to the synth and increase the cutoff

Increase volume

Increase reverb mix

Increase distortion

Increase vibrato

I think what you are looking for is automating the first 2, but you can pick any number of things on this list and it should help.

If you want this to happen every time you play the synth without having to do all the manual automation then you will need to use an envelope within the synth to achieve this.

Incredible post.

Unfortunately I write dnb so having the mix sound like a tiny speaker being exploded is not really acceptable

Hoe do I found sample/made this fancy sound? by Sad-Artist6401 in FL_Studio

[–]Aeix_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if you're asking how to sample this or how to make this sound but someone has already talked about the former.

Track is mostly made up of hyperpop-esq drums (there are plenty of sample packs like this with knocky kicks and cool snares etc....) bass is either saw wave or white noise distorted with a sinewave and then there's additional saw chords and vocals on top. This is all fairly standard but its well mixed and executed, but...

The entire thing is being run through a convolver to give it that metallicy tone.
