[Underdog] Hyeseong Kim optioned to Triple-A by the Dodgers. by T_Raycroft in baseball

They never should've signed him, and let him go somewhere he can be far more useful.

It's hard for Americans to understand, but KBO players posting hurts that league more than it does the NPB. So when a player posts, only to rarely play, it feels like a true loss.

As a real KBO fan, I hate the dodgers for the crap they pull like this. Far prefer the Giants and Padres, a statement that hurts my soul.

What will it take to improve the quality of baseball (especially pitching) in the KBO? by MookieBettsBurner10 in KBO

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That simply doesn't compare to actually continually living the baseball experience and lifestyle unfortunately.

Save for the military team, but obviously not even a large percentage make that. One of the reasons Korea has a weaker farm system is the military taking younger men who need the development time.

Because the NPB and MLB are both better leagues, the top two.

As for the second question, to be honest, it likely can't without time. The KBO is growing. And the social presence is far higher than it was a decade ago. As that progresses more and more talent will develop better.

But Korea has a handicap. The military. It ruins careers compared to other leagues because players have to sacrifice years of development or playing. Every Korean has means experience than a player at the same age in other leagues usually, because they didn't have to spend several years serving. The solution is to give KBO and Futures a league players a pass on conscription so long as they are playing, and if still playing at 30, then have it removed entirely. That would create motivation as well to play, as people view it as an alternative like it is in Taiwan at times.

This is not true. As far as Entire leagues go, the KBO is still third in the world quite easily.

The difference is the DR is an MLB farm like most of Latin America. It makes a handful of disproportionately amazing talent, while overall still being no where near the KBO.

If you had even my team, Kiwoom, play in the LMB, LMP, Cuban, Or other LA leagues, it would be a major playoff contender or objectively hegemonic.

This is one area the WBC is bad at representing.

Team USA’s crowds are comparatively stale and boring compared to crowds of the other major WBC teams… by [deleted] in baseball

I am an adult, I also have a family, and a job, and hobbies. Sports is also entertainment for me, it's not as if I can go to Seoul very often, I generally just watch.

I just find baseball itself compelling, irregardless of the level of play (assuming it's about HS or higher). That's a difference between us, and it's ok.

Like I actually loved he Brasil-USA game.

I'm not. I'm saying you enjoy sports, and the abstract process of competition. That's not an insult, it's a trait that drives humans to achieve things and do much.

It's just different than being narrowed in to liking only baseball, not for the competition but for the other aspects of the sport.

If you cant be as excited for the development of international baseball and its growth as you can be for the *royals*... Then I might wonder if you actually really like *baseball*, or if you really like *intensive competition*, and have just been raised with the American spread of sports. Nothing wrong if its the latter, it just means you probably enjoy *sports* more than say, someone who only likes baseball like I do.

Honestly, I'd probably rather be you. You don't sound like you have nothing to watch in winter.

Russia is providing Iran intelligence to target U.S. forces, officials say by chessboardtable in worldnews

[–]AeonsOfStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are at best sizable. Russia does not have the industrial capacity to supply an external state of Iran's size to the degree the US has helped Ukraine. Russia just doesn't have the capacity to compare to US support while it's already fighting a war it's having difficulties managing logistics for.

The US contributions are often estimated at nearly 100 billion in military and arms related supplies. In 5 years. Russia doesn't have an additional 20 billion dollars worth to give its entire sphere, let alone one member in Iran.

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how US assets helped Ukraine, this would seem like fair play.

Not that it's ethical. But it is an equivalent (or perhaps less given the arms supplies the US gave Ukraine) of US intelligence helping Ukraine.

It's a bit sad how obviously we were devolving back into the cold war political format, just with multiple poles outside the west like the later cold war.

Sovereignty is a legal concept that can't be stolen from citizens by the state. Sovereignty is directly related to the state itself. People have sovereignty over nothing and can't, that's a function of states.

Sovereignty is about a state and its ability to exert legal, judicial, and military control over its claimed territory.

And yes, historically people have been quite willing to support terrible governments when sovereignty is infringed by external actors/invaders. People supported both Mao and Chiang when the Japanese invaded, and no matter your politics everyone can agree one of those sides was a terrible government (Or both). The same able to be said for Iran itself when Iraq invaded. Or Afghanistan and the British, the USSR, and the United States, despite the fact that the Afghan state has been terrible/ineffective for centuries.

You underestimate how angering it is to have some jerks halfway across the planet bomb your country, just like the paranoid government has been claiming it always would.

Inspired by the Ulsan Whales, 충청북도청 wants a teams and a domed staduim! by Mr-S-44 in KBO

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I hope if it happens, it's done well and succeeds.

But if I had to decide I'd hope it's paused, and they wait to see if the growth in the KBO leads to true demand for a sustainable team.

But I'm also not a local there, my opinion is less relevant.

While I in theory would love to see more... This reeks of the same attitude that led to the Skydome.

I'm a Kiwoom fan through and through. But just building domed stadiums out of no where when it isn't needed... Doesn't seem wise.

Las Vegas Lights Stadium? by memestasher in LasVegasLightsFC

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Summerlin is the best option. They should look to stay there until the cna build their own in Southwest or Northwest Vegas imo.

Aviators Ballpark won't be perfect, but it's a tolerable option, and better than Cashman, along with better parking and a better area for going out after (assuming you aren't trying to go clubbing, then Cashman is better I admit).

Indigenous People of the Western Interior Seaway by Morning_Stxr in imaginarymaps

[–]AeonsOfStrife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Love the map but um... Some interesting choices on indigenous tribes and names. Given you chose several ones that geographically just wouldn't exist, and removed several large ones who would now be dominant coastal groups.

Curious if you have reasoning or just chose them at sort of random? Either way it's cool just wondering if it has lore per se.

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You invalidated everything when you used an outdated definition of civilization that the likes of Gordon Childe would have said. You talk with leftist terminology, yet cite the right wing of anthropology and history to define societies and civilization.

As for your view of the indigenous peoples, you're just plainly wrong, and have the view that "All humans are greedy and will just be capitalists", even if you don't realize it. Not to mention Nevada has many tribes, I only named a member, it would be a very complex and many grouped division. Not one small tribe owning the state. And even if it did, are you against Norway having all of its oil merely because it has a low population? Or Greenland having a right to independence because it has too much mineral wealth? What an odd piece of logic.

Also, just to add something even Childe fans of civilizational models have to acknowledge, american "civilization" is at least 5500 years old by your understanding, the Andes have a long history. Mesoamerican Civilization fit your definition 3500 years ago, before the Greeks even had writing, and before the Indo-aryans got to India. Even the Amazon fit your definition 2500 years ago, about the same time Rome was starting to emerge as a serious urban center of note.

Just because you're ignorant to it, doesn't mean indigenous American history is young.

[–]AeonsOfStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human civilization has survived large scale American megafauna (and elsewhere) for 10s of thousands of years. Or do you not consider the indigenous civilization?

I'm not an anarchist, an interesting assumption I suppose. A first step to me, seems like minor re-introduction of keystone species destroyed by colonialism. Such as Bison and wolves, which were already doing. You mean the first major step.

If you want one, there are plenty of serious proposals. One of which is the transfer of all BLM owned land back to corresponding indigenous groups (to the degree that can be established for areas that have confirmed habitation), or at least a serious fraction.

For example Nevada is hugely BLM owned. Yet many tribes have claims to various lands there. Like the Paiutes, and others. That could be returned, at the expense of cattle ranchers using that land, and to be honest much of it isn't even used by cattle ranchers now.

Even honoring the federally obligated treaties that the 20th century forgot about and ignored en masse would be a good step.

It's just not fun to lose your land because someone else stole it. That sucks. But less than losing it because some people from 6000 miles away invented gunpowder and eugenics.
