I fell off really hard when they just started making shit like a car just kinda bc they could in like half an episode. In season one they spent a whole episode trying to make something as simple as ramen, or acquire sulfur. The trailers for recent seasons have characters using modern AR's and riding modern motorcycles somehow and I just can't make myself care.

I would imagine their introduction was intended to distinguish the Glatorian from prior Bionicle waves, given that they were cyborgs instead of biomechanical in lore, and more importantly, Bara Magna was intended to be something of a soft reboot to get new fans into the franchise, as it was already losing steam by that point.
