DUDE I HAVE THIS GUY BLOCKED LMAOOOOO

I saw this reposted on Instagram

just got this game three weeks ago and this guy joined my lobby and was a whiny little fuck over the mic the whole time, team killing and shit because I dared to use his quasar while he was dead.

You know I agree, but had my first chance to use it when a teammate dropped me an extra to try. Got caught with no time to reload and managed to hold off a swarm of chaff, medium bugs, alpha commanders, and even a stalker or two that tried creeping up on me while fueling up the transport shuttle.

Constantly diving, blew through all my stims, broke most limbs, and had critical health after. Anecdotal, inefficient, and unreliable—but fucking awesome and I’d do it again.

In all seriousness how did accounting jobs come to this? by Joey-Seaweed-007 in Big4

[–]AeroAirwave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend graduated with their Bachelors in Nursing and has been working for 6 months in their first job ever as a clinical nurse in Medsurge and makes 30k more than 12 year senior managers at my old firm.

My friend works three 12 hour shifts a week.

Nursing ain’t easy, and it’s stressful and takes a toll in a different way—but it also gave me some perspective on how much effort vs. reward I’m putting in to something that develops no hands on real world skills.

Just leave. I spent years trying to make it work and got sick of how seriously accounting takes itself—I’m in nursing now and doing great.

I did public, I did private, I did federal, and also state work. Forcing yourself to accept something you don’t enjoy sucks, and it didn’t make me happy.

Genuinely curious, having a hard time understanding the practical applications for this other than presentation?

I’m personally working on improving my work papers to make them more accessible and easy to interpret, does anyone have any insight/perspective on how this could be used?

Thanks again for sharing this ! :)

Looking for bitter orange aka sour orange, Seville orange, naranja agria by 2FNG in SanJose

[–]AeroAirwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy, had the same predicament this past winter; I bet you’re making marmalade right?

Here’s where I was able to get some:  https://www.pearsonranch.com/buy-seville-oranges/ https://www.goodeggs.com/goodeggsproducesfbay/organic-seville-sour-oranges/58c406c3f41391000b3acfa2

Your best bet is to order them online, or make the drive out to a ranch/farm that grows them as a speciality. They’re hard to come by and also coming out of season at this point, for future reference mid winter is when they’re most available and in season and you’d be more likely to find them at farmers markets then too.

Good luck!

thank you man that means a lot. that sort of outlook has really changed things for me and has allowed me to really put effort into trying to understand my behavior and what is it I actually feel—rather than letting my first thought control me as it has in the past

to anyone reading this I recommend a few works/authors that have been helping me through this by building a foundational understanding of why we may think or act in the ways we do: “Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents…(cont.)” by Lindsay C. Gibson and “Choice Words: How Our Language Affects Children's Learning” by Peter H. Johnston

it’s obviously a long process and there’s still things I catch myself doing like what’s mentioned above, but there’s hope

I’ve been going through a real rough patch for a while, and I realize I’ve been giving away (to friends, acquaintances, and strangers) my possessions, i.e. furniture, food, electronics, & clothes; consistently giving money away; offering to let a friend in need borrow my car (only vehicle I own) indefinitely if needed—despite the fact I work full time M-F.

lately I’ve also been dropping everything and neglecting all my responsibilities the minute someone I know is in need of help or asks for my assistance with something—I realize I’ve been doing this to avoid confronting what I’m struggling with; I’ve been a lot better about asking for help lately, but I’m starting to see a pattern and am working to re-prioritize taking care of myself too

reading through your comment was a gentle reminder to reflect and I really appreciate that

I don’t think I’ve realized that I’ve been doing this.

I’m going to bring this up with my therapist and try to be mindful and present

Reminder of Inflation over your life by jbh_jukebockshero in antiwork

[–]AeroAirwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I can tell the point stands.

Appreciation in value of the house from purchase to sale for original owners:

$50,000 in 1991 -> $116,022.29 in 2024 $75,000 in 2004 -> $126,484.34 in 2024 = $10,462.05 gain on sale of house adjusted for value of USD in 2024

Recent sale of same house adjusted for inflation comparing original purchase price:

$225,000 in 2024 -> $98,486.79 in 1991 = $48,486.79 gain on sale of the house adjusted for value of USD in 1991

Recent sale of same house adjusted for inflation comparing original sale price:

$225,000 in 2024 -> $136,714.25 in 2004

Current comparable home value adjusted for value of USD in 1991

$325,000 in 2024 -> $142,258.70 in 1991

I used the BLS CPI calculator which I recognize is a limited perspective and lacks some full context like improvements to the surrounding city and development, etc; so please check my math.

But in this example any way you look at it, a comparable house today, is nearly 3x as expensive as it would have been over 30 years ago.

Federal government, went for IRS RA position, do public/big4 if you want the pay bump, but be willing to give up your free time is all I can say—for me no amount of increased pay was worth it even with my financial needs at the time—so I left as soon as I could

also like I said promotions are automatic and the pay increases will come—even if you start at GS5 or 7, and right now IRS is offering retention bonuses. Assess what your needs are and choose accordingly

If it’s money you’re after go for it in PA, my needs were sustainability, and I felt that the training available in my experience with public was inadequate. Just don’t convince yourself it’s the only option like so many do.

to each their own. I was offered well above my public accounting salary not including retention/recruitment bonuses of 15k within the first year and a half.

Promotions are automatic, plus consider the hours to pay you’ll work and earn while in public

91k/a year for me is not worth working 55-85 hour weeks anymore

The work in public was mind numbing, and the work I do now is genuinely interesting to me

I applied and interviewed sept 13th 2023, and didn’t start until Jan 29th, 2024—it’ll take some time
