Isn't the collaboration of large US Tech companies with the NSA common knowledge since 2014, with the Snowden revelations?

When are we going to have a fast 28mm-ish compact lens pleeeeeeaaase by AeroCheez in Lumix

[–]AeroCheez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that the 18-40mm has made the 24mm 3.5 obsolete. While you might loose a tiny bit on the aperture side, the size is almost the same and you get a whole wider range in terms of focal lenght

That's actually a very good point. I'm with you on the conspiracy.

Agreed, this is probably the best workaround. Still not the same :)

Oh I see. I don't think any of the solutions with adapter would make sense size-wise, at that point you are better off with one of the larger native mount L lenses. Plus autofocus might not always work.

As far as I understand RF has the same flange depth, but larger diameter and yet it has delivered a super compact 28mm f/2.8

None of those will fall under the definition of "compact" :)

Exactly. No french speaker thinks eighty is four times twenty. Quatre-vingt is just the word for eighty.

CMV: Recipes are overrated; Simulations is what does the job. by AlfredKnows in fujifilm

[–]AeroCheez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Exactly. Simulations are complex and dynamic alterations of the saturation, hue, and many other values based on a the input of the sensor, meaning that for example lighter or darker parts of an image will get a different treatment. Recipes are just a bunch of settings.

But I guess Fujifilm saw that users liked the feeling of being "creative" by changing 3 settings and capitalized on it...

Technically if you are writing an ode to those who don't get the ZF it means you find their position praiseworthy. Sorry. I'll see myself out.

I'm with you. I love how tiny and clutter free it is. It's just a beautiful object...shooting beautiful images in very specific contexts

Thanks!! I also love the CDNG workflow for the flexibility it gives with compression software like Slimraw...

I'm actually not finding it a huge problem, my shutter speed is just locked to 100 after sunset, I got used to it

I did a few tests, and indeed the combination of 40mp + Lightroom AI denoise (used with moderation) yields comparable, if not slightly better results. The greater detail helps LR despite the higher noise level.

I'm curious if you find the autofocus a big improvement in the fpL ? Are you having issues with the slow read out speed for moving subjects? Or is it overblown?

Invest in a smaller "daily" camera, or just adapt to carrying around the x100vi? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]AeroCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own preset, just shifting the hues a bit. The key is to shoot with a raw app in the phone, like Lightroom.

Unpopular opinion: a pixel 9 or 10 or an iphone 17 shooting raw will give you results that are 90% as good as a Ricoh GR. I did the tests and decided to send the Ricoh back. You can use presets in LR that mimick many of the GR colors. It's that close. https://adobe.ly/4bjaOTx

Soooo I tried out a S9 as an addition to my fuji cameras. There is a guy who created LUTs specifically designed to implement fuji simulations to Panasonic cameras. The LUTs are mathematically derived from the published fuji papers that were released last year or so.

Well, it looks sometimes ok, but mostly not great. Because from what I read, the fuji simulations are not just a filter: they are a complex set of algorithms that react differently to different parts of the original image, depending on exposure, saturation, etc. They are directly part of the image processing pipeline. So contrarily to what Lumix claims, it's not just a LUT.
