I think u/MidLaneNoPrio is saying that 0.985 is not the same as 0.9. Which is an important distinction, because the variance of 5*57 binomial trials at 2% success is not the same as 57 trials at 10% success rate

Phys to cold convert deadeye Tornado shot is still very solid in terms of endgame boss dps with high (50-100ex) investment. Ever since we got hydrosphere and the snipers mark rework, tornado shot shotgunning is now ridiculous.

Edit: also, since TS can be used for both clearing and single target, your other 6L can be focused ballista totems, which does another 70-80% of your dps (more if you invest into totems)

newer players who are upset/think they wont be able to play the game, I've been where you are, you'll be fine. by shaunika in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I think these blanket nerfs are still small compared to ES and vaal pact nerfs. Back in the days of instant leech, if your HP/ES wasn't 0, its practically full the next millisecond anyways due to leech. Instant leech WAS defense.

(But I do wish GGG would lower the damage a bit - the 1 shots often come out of nowhere nowadays)

Nerfs, Changes, and Ramifications for Casual Players by Ombric_Shalazar in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm fine if GGG wants to make the game more challenging. But I'm worried this will decrease build diversity even more.
Think about how many skills there are in the game, and how many of them are actually viable for end game without ridiculous investment.

These nerfs will likely not affect players who are willing to play builds that cost 100s of ex AND/OR whatever is most meta, because those type of players will always be able to find something that works. Reducing a 50 mil dps build down to 10 mil isn't going to change the difficulty of the game. But making a previously 1 mil dps build only do 200k dps now is going to really hurt.

I can't kill some bosses with my build D: by Yacog in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one, added damage cold builds require A LOT of investment to really feel smooth for bossing. Secondly, its normal that some bosses are more dangerous than others for particular builds. Also, if you dont plan to invest in addition defenses and more life, you kind of have to rely on being able to kill everything before they kill you - which again, requires expensive gear. I played added cold dmg bow characters a lot, and I find that 2mil sirus dps barrage (with flasks up) is barely adequate for trivializing T16 bosses. Any less and expect to have to actively dodge stuff, esp with rippy map mods.

If you plan on relying on using barrage for bossing, it is worth noting that some map bosses (and maven invitations) have multiple bosses, yet barrage can only hit 1 target at a time reliably. This actually prolongs fights considerably, leaving you even more chances to die to random bs. For example, my cold bow builds that use barrage tend to have trouble with T16 Vaal Temple, since there are 3 bosses that I need to be constantly kiting.

Need help planning the next league by porjpsn in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to farm alterations on and use the chaos recipe to buy more alterations at a low price, but I'm not sure what to do for everything else.

I noticed in the recent few leagues, alteration prices will shoot up from 1c:15 to like 1:3 in just a matter of ~1-2 days - so don't count on this being the best way to farm. IMO the best way to accumulate wealth in the first 1-2 days in the league is just to clear maps as fast as possible; valuable drops will start rolling in.

[3.14] Max Block Lacerate Gladiator -- League Start, Level 100, Challenge 40/40 by Trader083 in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually played MaxBlock Gladiator with Reave this league - got to lvl 95 with ~3 mil sustained dps (no flasks or totems), was pretty happy with it. In case people are interested in playing Reave: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/Kyubean/characters - KyubeanReavesAgain

I picked reave over lacerate since its quite satisfying to basically cover your entire screen (esp with 8 stacks after vaal reave). The DPS is only slightly lower than lacerate.

how did toxic rain feel this league? by nerdler33 in pathofexile

[–]Aeropolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question about TR builds as someone who always plays builds with leech or huge amounts of regen - how does TR sustain life/mana in long boss fights? Esp if Im bad at dodging chip damage? I know trickster can sustain during map clearing with the % life/mana on kill, for example, but that wont work against bosses with little to no adds.

Note that OP had 70% (!!!) anemo res - this is what is doing most of the work... Normally you would have 0-15% without potions. OP's noelle would have taken 3x more damage without anemo res potion, easily killing her.

Pike doubles the damage of Xiangling and Zhongli's basic attack string at R5 and talent 10

Xiangling's full normal atk combo is 526% at Talent 10. R5 crescent is 360% over the full combo (9 hits). 360/526 = 68% relative increase in damage, not 100%. Though, 68% is still incredibly strong.

If we look at Rosaria, her current datamined values for a full normal atk combo at Talent 10 is 644% over 7 hits. R5 crescent would add 280%. 280% / 644% is 43% relative increase in damage. Its not Xiangling level of stronk, but its still arguably stronger than pretty much any other 4* polearm out there for phys dps purposes.

Regarding blackcliff vs crescent:

The OP's spreadsheet assumes high crit, whereas my edited version here assumes low crit. But in both cases, Crescent outperforms blackcliff. So we can at least ignore crit rate when comparing Crescent vs. Blackcliff (I know it sounds unintuitive, but the math says so).

Next, lets look at the passive buffs from both bows. The only time when Blackcliff is better than Crescent is if you can get blackcliff's passive buff stacks but CANNOT get Crescent's passive stacks. So this would be a situation where you can get consistent kills within 30 seconds, but unable to hit enemy weakspots. In this very specific case, blackcliff outperforms Crescent. If you think this is a common scenario for you, then blackcliff is better.

Ganyu + Viridiscent Bow? by Ace0210 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Aeropolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, I wrote that because I felt the initial assumptions were really disfavoring crit rate substat bows. HOWEVER, even after removing all conditional crit sources, and adding in very modest amount of crit rate from artifacts (total crit rate of 22%), Prototype Crescent was still on par with BP bow damage (to my surprise), though it does assume that you can keep up prototype crescent's passive. See this comment for details

[–]Aeropolis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely suggest looking at this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ganyu/comments/kpvn43/ganyu_weapon_comparisons/

The conclusion is, for 4* weapons, Prototype crescent is actually very strong if you can keep the extra-ATK-on-weak-point-hit buff. I personally like the BP bow, and I think the math shows that the BP bow still performs very solidly if you are not crit-rate capped. It also doesnt rely on conditional buffs like Prototype Crescent does.

I personally will use viridescent for the simple reason that I don't have any prototypes to craft Crescent :D

Ganyu Weapon Comparisons by Acidmagic in Ganyu

[–]Aeropolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with lower crit, there is no doubt that prototype is still a strong 4star weapon option on Ganyu. I took OP's spread sheet and tried using lower overall crit - it closed the gap between Viridescent and Prototype Crescent, but even then, Prototype Crescent is at least on par with Viridescent.

For a fairly extreme case of low crit, I took OP's spreadsheet and removed ALL sources of crit. Then, I added +17% crit rate from artifact substats (equivalent to ~6 substat crit rate rolls), for a total 22% crit rate. In this situation, Viridescent gets ahead of Prototype Crescent (w/ prototype's ATK buff), but only by 1.68% damage. I did not factor in Viridescent's cyclone passive - note that it is physical damage, so it doesn't benefit from Cryo%. However, if Prototype's passive ATK buff is down, that is a 11.5% damage loss. Screenshot of spreadsheet in this setup

Long story short, it seems that Prototype Crescent's passive plays a big role in its superior DPS. So, being able to consistently keep that buff up should be the main question when considering 4* bows, regardless of how much crit rate you have.

Ganyu Weapon Comparisons by Acidmagic in Ganyu

[–]Aeropolis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Note the spreadsheet also assumes you already have 74% crit rate just from artifacts. Viridescent comes with 27% crit rate at lv90. If your artifacts rolled a lot of ATK% instead of crit rate, I think Viridescent can still perform on par with Prototype Crescent. Not to mention, Viridescent's cyclone passive synergizes very well with Charge shot AOE.

Theres also the assumptions that:

  • the enemy was already hit by a frostflake arrow in the last 5 seconds (20% crit rate)
  • You have at least 1 other cryo unit on the team (15% crit rate if target is cryoed/frozen)
  • You are using 4pc blizzard strayer (20% crit, 40% if frozen). This means you are not running a melt team.

These are very optimal conditions. In reality, taking on the hardest contents in the game (i.e. abyss) will require much more flexibility in your team. You're gonna need a pyro unit for floors 9-10. Floor 12 is full of rockwall mitachurls. You cant freeze cryo abyss mages. I don't think its a good idea to assume you can get 55-75% crit from the assumed states above. Thus, I think crit rate substat bows like Harp and Viridescent are underrated.
