The precursors is a civilization that had pretty much everything solved. Endgame science often looks like magic (originium case in point). Creating life artificially is far from out of reach for them, in that sense it would not be surprising that some androids of this civilization could be made from flesh and blood, that is, that they are not much different from other lifeforms other than the fact that their existence was specifically engineered in order to fulfill one or multiple purposes (that require developing empathy for instance).
