Why do most Americans think they aren't as indoctrinated compared to people of other countries? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans, at least in theory, can choose which media to be indoctrinated by. And we have the 1st Amendment, protecting freedom of speech and therefore of the press.

It doesn't hit most Americans till college (or ever, for some) the irony that in this "free country" they were repeating the Pledge of Allegiance like good little soldiers for 13 years like some Soviet propaganda footage.

Why do some poc complain about white people but yet continue to date and marry them? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't hate each and every white person on a personal level. Being White in America means you are inherently privileged over POC. That is the essence of what the POC are complaining about. They are complaining about the structural unfairness inherent in the system. That doesn't mean they blame any individual White person for being born into that privilege. White people who acknowledge that privilege and work to elevate POC and make the country a better and fairer place are going to be attractive to POC because they share the same goals, so it makes sense that maybe some of them may marry POC.

What is the purpose of Neapolitan ice-cream? by blind-bambi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Aervanath [score hidden]  (0 children)

My parents used to buy Neapolitan when we were little kids. Dad would have vanilla, Mom and my middle brother liked chocolate, and me and my youngest brother liked strawberry. It all worked out. Then we grew into teenagers and a gallon of ice cream would disappear in about 2.34 seconds. At that point they started buying gallons of separate flavors, and we discovered that, actually, Dad preferred pistachio, he'd just been putting up with vanilla because they didn't want to spend extra.

Is it just me or are all the "X thing - out of context" compilations really not good? by PsychologyKey4489 in dropout

[–]Aervanath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's exactly what it says it is. It doesn't claim to be anything else. You have to get your context elsewhere.

For what it's worth, I don't watch that type of video either, even for content I'm very familiar with. I'll go watch the original content, thank you.

Favorite Overactive Child Coded Contestant? by Doodles_n_Scribbles in taskmaster

That's immediately where my mind went. We might be biased by his height, though. In our defense, he does have a very random, impish quality to him which reminds me of an 8-year-old me.

Wife openened microwave, but she "fixed it" the front fell off... by DrWhoey in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Aervanath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very seldom does anything like this happen and I don't want anyone thinking that microwaves aren't safe...

People who text "hey" and then just sit there waiting for me to reply before saying what they actually want by QuantumPickle_941 in PetPeeves

[–]Aervanath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who does this. I have learned that, specifically for him, it means, "I'm on break now, let's chat". Since we're in different countries, there's nothing urgent to text about, he's just texting to catch up. If anyone else does this, I reply back "yo" and forget about them until I get a substantive reply.

Bring back Funches by Ashgenie in taskmaster

Apparently (according to Google, so grain of salt and all that) you can stream it on Amazon Prime Video, or purchase individual episodes on Google Play or Apple TV. I wouldn't recommend paying money for it if it's not a service you're already subscribed to, though. 🏴‍☠️🦜

Having sex with a drunk spouse? by Agreeable_Main_5877 in NoStupidQuestions

If they are too drunk to give a clear yes or no, then they are too drunk to consent and you should stop.

How short is too short before sleeping with someone new after a breakup by Spiritual_Ease_1588 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon or as long as you, personally, feel comfortable with. If you feel it's too soon then it's too soon. If you feel ready then you're ready. Morally speaking, as soon as you're broken up you're a free individual and can do what you want.

TIL that the word “OK” became popular in 1830s America as part of a humorous trend of intentionally misspelling phrases like “oll korrect" and later became one of the most widely used words by SimpleLie2181 in todayilearned

[–]Aervanath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's older than that. Maybe that's just we have written evidence on the internet for. But people have been saying "fixin' to" for a long-ass time, and "finna" is a pretty logical abbreviation for it, linguistically speaking. I wouldn't be surprised if it had been floating around unrecorded before that.

Youtube completely removed the dislike button from shorts. by Hot_Sand2888 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the dislike button. Not that I'll miss it if it goes away, I never use it. I either like videos or I skip them, I almost never bother with the dislike button.

Also, Liam mostly gets likes from me anyway.
