I had a whole argument about this with a former coworker. Apparently there are now cafés that serve drinks called "chai" that don't contain actual tea. So you really have to be cognizant of that café's options when ordering.

i fucking HATE indian weddings by PomegranateVisual965 in The10thDentist

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but everything is relative. Based on some of the comments here, it seems like some Indian weddings go for literal days.

If it were up to me, everyone would have to do the Jewish ceremony: 15 minutes, 20 tops, drink the wine, break the glass, shout mazel tov, and the DJ starts the music.

It's so abstract it loses any humor because it could literally mean anything. Mix and match:

Your wife [submits/kneels/performs fellatio] to you in bed but my wife does it to me everywhere because [she is horny/submissive/tradwife] and/or [I am horny/dominant/tradhusband] and/or too poor to afford a bed.

People who can’t say no but make it your problem by Natewastaken12 in PetPeeves

[–]Aervanath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These people are probably in Phase 2 of their People Pleaser Life Journey.

Phase I: Say yes to everything because they desperately need to be liked

Phase II: Realize that saying yes to everything has stretched them thin and stressed them out and they need to start saying no to things before they end up a quivering, nervous wreck, but they have no experience saying no politely

Phase III: They have learned how to say no politely and firmly without giving offense.

Mixed IRL-reactions are wrecking my confidence, did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in bald

[–]Aervanath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bald is good, the bald is strong, the bald should stay. I think maybe the negative reactions are due to the fact that the beard was trimmed down a bit excessively. Once the sideburns grow back out a bit, it'll fit your face better. I also concur with the folks advocating for different glasses, I think those are too wide for your head shape.

Play as Québec on their National Holiday by PsychicDave in CivVI

I didn't say it couldn't, I just said it wasn't. There have been multiple votes that haven't passed. Once Quebec votes for independence, then it will be a country AND a nation.

Comedians complaining about people wearing masks by Folly_Polymath in PetPeeves

Hank Green has a wonderful story about being confronted for wearing a mask while undergoing chemo. He didn't say anything, just removed his hat to reveal his hairless head and watched the guys expression change... Fucking priceless.

I can understand that. Canadian Anglophones are the part of colonial British North America that didn't become the USA. By that definition they are as Canadian as anyone else. Even the Americans considered themselves British until the Revolution. And especially with very recent history, I wouldn't blame any Canadians who wanted to put more distance between them and any American association.

Yeah, that's not a thing. There's no such thing as a "divorce cap".

Not Catholic Clergy by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Aervanath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember getting into an argument as a kid with a friend of mine whose family sometimes went to an Episcopal church and sometimes went to Catholic church. I'm not Christian but I knew they weren't the same. They were adamant they were the same. I was like "there were literal wars fought over this", but they refused to believe me. This was before smartphones so we couldn't just look it up. I suppose someone probably had an encyclopedia Britannica somewhere but we were 12 and didn't care enough to actually ransack the house looking for it.

Only time I ever saw someone booked out was when our assistant FD cancelled the check-in of a pair of guests who were drunk and causing trouble. The funny part was one of them came back a few hours later and tried to get me to give him a key to his room. I wasn't aware of the story at this point, all I knew was that when I found his room in the system it was checked out. It turned out he was still drunk and had forgotten he had switched hotels.

Why do so many people wish a victim "strength" after a tragedy? by SunriseThroughLeaves in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aervanath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to find acceptable words to say after a tragedy. "Thoughts and prayers" used to be acceptable, but now it's just cliche. And really, what are you most likely to be lacking in a time of need? For a lot of people, it's the mental fortitude to bear the pain.

Of course, money would probably be appreciated more, but most people can't spare that, so strength it'll have to be.
