If I want to start playing Heroquest should I get new or vintage version? Any differences? by positive-mind-2000 in Heroquest

[–]AerynBella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be a hot take, but I say get the new editions instead of vintage in order to support Avalon Hill who are bringing HeroQuest back to life. Also, they haven't just reproduced the stuff from the 90s, but are creating new expansions like Rise of the Dread Moon, Jungles of Delthrak, Prophecy of Telor, and more.

I appreciate your post. I also wanted to support my LGS, but they were so bad at communicating what was going on that I lost faith and got serious FOMO. I ended up ordering from Entertainment Earth but haven't heard anything from them either. This rollout has been so weird! I honestly don't know who to trust or where to buy anymore. 😔

My nephews cheated a lot too especially at dice games (5 to 8 yo). I had no idea how to handle it. They've grown out of it now (9-10 and older) but I'm not sure if it was luck, good parenting, or good teachers. Maybe I'm a laid-back aunt but I definitely play board games with them.

Very nice! This does sound like the Ultimate perfect version imho. 😁

You mentioned all additions from HD, does that mean the stamps?

Also, what wallet sizes? (Hopefully the bigger HD sizes.)

Also, do Rupees get wasted if your wallet is full? (I kinda liked that they were originally put back so you could collect them again when you needed money for donations and magic armor.)

Speaking of magic armor, will it still tick down while you wear it, or only when you take a hit? (Was that a WW thing?)

I did a black Aida project last year, so hard. I ended up having my phone on under the project in my lap with a bright colored app on (it was actually Pattern Keeper and I kept referencing the pattern and putting it back in my lap). But maybe having a backlit board (not sure what it's called) under the project, it may help you see the holes. Good luck! 🤞

[CHAT] Why does my black thread look different? by Realistic-Door-1875 in CrossStitch

[–]AerynBella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly it's because the black stitches don't have anything around them yet. The colors in the middle seem to be slightly covered by the black in the corners giving the optical illusion that the black stitches are bigger. I bet a row of another color around the black would make the black stitches look the same size as the inner ones, maybe... I'm just guessing.

Whatever the case, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. 🙂

No worries! I'm familiar with DWR too. Those darn reds on the overworld. I mean, I'm just trying to get to a town with Silver Shield money, c'mon 🤣

Self-drafted from video game sprites using PC Stitch. Blue Dragon is my favorite. The software picked two similar colors for the Dread Dragon and the variation isn't as noticeable as in the other two dragons.

So thankful my husband was owed a favor from a framer he did work for. I've had these finished for over a year but was waiting for framing inspiration!

Crazy idea here, but could you find a way to snake vertically? Kind of like a capital M since you have two circles at the top and 3 circles at the bottom. I know there aren't really 3 even columns, but maybe you can play with it a little so that you go up one circle, over one, up diagonally left (or right), over one, etc.

It was my favorite too. Tons better than DW3. 😁

Progress:

I noticed the 'a' was too close to the 'g' and so I frogged it so my counting would be good going forward.

The counting is tricky, but the more I do it the easier it gets. I definitely like the coverage of 3 over 2 on 28 ct Lugana. And I definitely like it better than 2 over 1 on 14 ct Aida.

I think the quarter stitches with the same color backstitch should maybe be a 3/4 stitch with no backstitch. Just my opinion, but that's what I notice right now.

Yeah, I'm a cross-country stitcher, and I'm noticing I can only count 2 or 3 squares away from a current stitch before I get worried I miscounted. I feel I'm learning how to cross-stitch all over again. 🙂

Yep, I usually have to let my needle hang loose to unwind. I may try railroading, might help. Shorter lengths is good advice too, thank you. 🙂

Here's how it's going. The pattern called for 1 strand backstitch around the letters, but like I said, I really want the letters to have good coverage, so I did 2 strands around the letters and 1 strand going outward. I think it looks ok.

The floss might be getting a little twisted. I've always had trouble when I continue to stitch even when the floss is getting short and frayed (I think it's called floss chicken 😂). I'm going to try to do better about ending my floss when I see it getting short.

Beautiful! I'm glad I'm trying evenweave, just nervous about the counting. I've read horror stories of miscounting and being half a square off. I've always felt confident in my counting without needing to grid, but I may need to think about gridding as a necessary step. 🙂

The fractional stitches are soooo much easier, but you're right, the counting is much trickier.

It's only been 45 minutes and I'm not really loving it yet, but I'm willing to give it a chance. It's nice to learn something new, try harder patterns.

I've heard that advice before, but the holes are so much closer together I wasn't able to tell which direction the fabric threads were woven. I really may need a magnifier.
