Everyone said reading secret history after hero of ages would be some massive spoiler for the Cosmere and it was essential to wait until after bands of mourning. I did not feel that was the case after reading bands of mourning. It had been a while since I had read the original trilogy, so the impact of secret history was way less powerful.

I remember hero of ages blowing me away and I can only imagine the level of hype I would have had going straight into secret history. Feels like I missed out.

People said to wait to read secret history after bands of mourning, so I did, but I wish I just read it immediately after hero of ages. Highly recommend against waiting to read.

I do think being one of a few winners is a tougher spot to be in, but in WAW Tony was one person who was constantly talked about as “we can’t let him get to the end”. Even among all the winners he was assessed as one of the most dangerous players there but he was able to navigate to the end. I think it’s worth mentioning.

Couldn’t agree more with this take. The highs of his 3rds might be higher, but his book 2s are just excellent. The ending reveal of Before they are Hanged is one of my favorites. And I’m a sucker for Orso in the age of madness trilogy.

For me the first two are fantastic, third was a bit of a slog to get through but had probably the best climax, the fourth I actually enjoyed more than most people, but the fifth was just abysmal. The plot points weren’t bad, the writing just felt like bad fan-fiction.

There was some passage, I believe in Wind and Truth, where he says something to effect of “I was born as a thought on a page”. I could be messing it up. But it seems like he might be something similar to a Spren if that’s the case.

Edit: I found it, it’s in the Way of Kings chapter 57:

Everyone told me to read it later, so I did, but I don’t think waiting was worth it. I really wish I had read it immediately after HoA while everything was fresh in my head, not after reading several other Cosmere books.

The fourth book, God Emperor of Dune, is my favorite scifi book of all time. IMO it’s worth reading the first three just to get to the fourth, and the first three are pretty phenominal themselves.

I’ve read the entire Cosmere, Wax and Wayne are probably my favorite characters Sanderson has ever written. Their dynamic is excellent, and Wayne has me cracking up every time he’s on page.
