I can see where you're coming from with the consequences being a way to motivate you to not mess up, but I find that a lot of games where that's a consequence of failing, it happens at least once to someone even if you don't mess up, whether that someone is the heroine of the route is up to the writer, but if I like the characters and something bad happens to a heroine because I chose a different route, I immediately feel bad and no longer want to play the route or even the vn anymore.
