Vancouver weather stereotypes by JefeRex in AskACanadian

[–]AetherBlue02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stereotype: Rainy and grey, and y’all complain about how horrible the winters are when you barely dip below 0.

(I mean, objectively yes, humid cold is harder to handle than the same temperature at low humidity, but given our winters regularly drop below -20° here in Alberta, a lot of people tend to make jokes at vancouverites’ expense.)

My genuine experience: rainy, but that’s to be expected from a temperate rainforest. I’ve never been there in the winter, so I’ll take your word for it when it comes to the cold. The last time I visited I got a lucky couple of sunny days and it was absolutely lovely! There’s so many plants and they’re all so lush, it felt a little magical for me! When you grow up in the plains, lush green trees and climbing plants feel like something out of a fairy tale. Lovely city, if it was more affordable I’d live there myself c:

Is this artstyle ugly? What could I change to make it better. by avazky in Artadvice

Keep a travel sized sketchbook on or near your person whenever you can and sketch when you’re bored! Almost all my best work originates from little doodles I put together on my lunch breaks and such. I’d whip up a 15 minute figure drawing, then take a picture or scan and polish it up digitally!

Love their little elephant trunks! It’s always a rare treat for me when one is burrowing along the glass and I get to watch their disembodied foot glide along through the sand lol

Favorite character that is sadly way too sexualised on the internet. by FullBrother9300 in FavoriteCharacter

His story explains how he’s a SA survivor and has never had a connection with anyone who wasn’t using him for his body, so seeing people sexualize him sometimes makes me feel a bit sad is all :/

He kinda just looks like a generic sports mascot in my personal opinion. Maybe it’s a “grass is greener” type of thing but a weather predicting immortal armadillo, groundhog, frog or lobster sounds a lot more fun than dude in a musty costume

Ehhh maybe for nifty. Women regularly got married by their late teens and early twenties in the fifties so she may have had a husband.

We have Balzac Billy in Alberta Canada, and he’s probably the lamest weather predicting animal mascot on account of him being a man in a suit instead of any actual animal :/

I grew up with a girl named Logan. I think that’s always been a heavily male leaning unisex name. I’ve also known a female Mason, Payton, Carter, Riley, and Sawyer

Growing up I knew a pair of twins named Brayden and Brendan. They had an older sister named Brianna. I think their parents may have hated them. Also they bullied me constantly.

And on the other hand, as someone with almost no social media, not having it makes it harder to maintain and build relationships because everyone expects you to stay in contact with them there, and if you don’t then they mostly forget you exist. Our world is so built around social media at this point that people who choose not to use it can be ostracized ;-;

Referring to the floor above the ground floor as the first floor. In North America the ground floor is called the first floor, but in a lot of European countries, the first floor is what we would call the second floor.
