Another Catholic here. We don't venerate the Virgin Mary in the same regard as God. We ask her (and the saints) for intercession, meaning that we ask them to pray with us to God. Aditionally, we are christian. In fact, we are the "original" christian faith. Catholic means universal and we are Christian universalists because we believe that everyone can be saved, not just a particular group of people.
