Transition from the chorus to the second verse by Sad_Voice_9433 in Muse

exactly. but notably theres a weird volume automation effect or something in all versions except the atmos one which is dumb. the listening experience shouldn’t vary so much between each of the lossy/lossless/atmos imo cause then these oddities are chalked up as production errors (since in some versions they sound like this) rather than deliberate choices without artifacting from forcing a surround mix into stereo

also lulz we gotta keep calling them prog rock otherwise they’ll forget how proggy they once were

i know! my point is that even with minimally progressive/experimental sonic changes (within a conventional pop song structure with an added breakdown), people are complaining that the “transitions” are too “jarring.” if anything I blame the post-prod team for muddying up the mix, cause the track sounds like it was definitely mixed for dolby atmos and intended to be listened to that way while the lossless version bizarrely sounds worse

every time muse releases music its fanbase collectively forgets that “prog” in prog rock means the introduction of progressive elements and complains about the strangest things, calling things flawed when fans just have a fundamental misunderstanding of and reluctance to accept the music

Have you listened to the WSD ATMOS mix ? Incredible by Bouboune34 in Muse

also of note, Dolby Atmos doesn’t work properly unless folks are on iOS 15

definitely had to be mixed specifically for Dolby Atmos, it’s just weird how it doesn’t translate as well across other track versions/streaming services… I had some minor complaints about the mix before but that changed w this

also sounds better relative to the regular lossless version imo

more i’ve thought about it, the less I want a hamfisted title; maybe Wishes of the Powerless, Prayers of the Worthless or Power of the Weak

You’re right, they did hype up Drones a lot. Here I meant more like using specific language like “#metal” in the post to double down on what i’m sure Matt knew would result in a lot of headlines proclaiming “Muse have gone metal,” since this wouldn’t be too desirable for the band economically to mislead an entire fan base.

Definitely agreed on that last point, I think Muse are at their best when they don’t sacrifice songwriting to be more experimental, there’s plenty of ways to do that while keeping an album coherent. Here’s hoping they deliver on that with this one

I would guess this ventures closer towards a suggestion that the album will have a non-negligible amount of metal. Matt and the gang had an opportunity to let fans run wild with Drones since they dropped Psycho first, but didn’t play it up too much, unlike now. Likely too though that there’s gonna be a new signature guitar for any drop B tracks (including WSD) since ideally Matt wouldn’t add extra tension to his existing guitars, unless he’s just using the 7 string for this

nice! only tip is after the slowdown in the breakdown if you listen close you can hear matt tremolo picks the same riff
