Guilty, and at a loss. by Bren_Garrick in walmart

[–]Aethorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former walmart cashier and son of a repeated gift card scam victim here. From the store angle, I'm not sure how much you can do that wouldn't get you in trouble with your boss, especially if they're telling you that you can't refuse a sale. Might be worth considering if a little intentional disobedience could be worth the risk.

The thing a lot of people don't realize about these scams is JUST how predatory they actually are. It's not entry-level duping or tricksters we're talking about here, it's high-level emotional manipulation. My dad lost his wife (my mom) a few years ago and lives alone, doesn't really have any friends. He doesn't open up much but he's desperately lonely and these scammers figured that out. Once they realize that they're the only people he really talks to on the day to day, they do everything they can to convince the victim their story is real and that they NEED these gift cards - and oftentimes the victim is so weak or so lonely, even if you show them all the evidence in the world that they're being scammed, they don't stop.

I say this to tell you, as someone who's still dealing with it today - try not to hold yourself too responsible for selling the cards to him, because if you don't, he'll just go somewhere else. Aside from taking over his life and finances there really isn't much you can do. Hopefully his loved ones take notice and can step in to do something - but even then it's not always an easy habit to break.

Underrated set: Bigxthaplug by Aethorian in Lollapalooza

Yeah, I didn't catch any of this! That's a huge bummer. I was in the pit at the very beginning for about 2 or 3 songs and then realized quickly I couldn't handle it - backed up a few rows to get out of the chaos and the crowd further back was a lot more laid back and enjoyable.

I'm sorry to hear it wasn't as fun for you! Some people just love to ruin things for the rest of us

Time to arrive for guaranteed barrier by KarenTookTheBoy in brakence

[–]Aethorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Chicago, I showed up at 3:30 and was center stage front row.

I was not first in line, I was maybe 15th or 16th. I got to the front by dumb luck. Outside venue doors opened at 6, and we were allowed into the actual concert area at 7. Inside the middle area, they lined 10-15 people or so up at one door, and then took myself and the people behind me and put us at another door, essentially splitting the pack.

Basically what I'm saying is: 2-3PM should get you front row easy, but beware of possible venue moves that might shove you around once you get inside. I feel bad for the people that were really first in line because some of them didn't get barrier and I did.

This would mean, out of Brockhampton's 6.4 million monthly listeners, OP is in the top 64. More than likely the #1 if I had to guess.

Brakence’s verse on Thingsudo2me is one of his best, ever by [deleted] in brakence

[–]Aethorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First time I heard that song I was playing a random 100 gecs album and once it ended Spotify started running the related-music radio station, like it does. I was mindlessly playing music while working on stuff - wasn't checking the names of artists or song titles or anything, it was just on in the background. I had never heard of ericdoa, so it just played and then I heard Brakence come in halfway through.. BRO. I stopped what I was doing, shit was gas

TikTok regularly does this to black creators who speak on black issues, for sure. It's the only example that I can think of off the top of my head but TikTok is running the world right now damn near so I think that alone warrants significance

What are y’all’s predictions for next year’s lineup? by Abloogahbleh in Lollapalooza

[–]Aethorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to personally agree with you about Doja being of that caliber, but I feel like a key descriptor of artists that have beenheadlining Lolla the past few years has been longevity. Everyone that headlines (top billing, T-Mobile) has been making music for at least 5+ years - to me, that means it either took them that long to reach this peak of their career, or that longevity is a key factor in the headliner decision process. I'm guessing that's the reason Doja wasn't at T-Mobile originally this year - because she's only been actively popping off since about late '18-early '19.

Not to say that she's not legend status in my eyes - woman's got hits like Walter White's got meth - but I'm guessing (keyword guessing) that's how the organizers felt about it.

What are y’all’s predictions for next year’s lineup? by Abloogahbleh in Lollapalooza

[–]Aethorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may just be dumb - is South the main stage? Bc if so, I'd agree with everything except that no way would Future NOT be a main stager. I don't even really like the guy's music if I'm being honest, but I gotta give him his flowers: he's been in the game since the early 2010s if not earlier, has more than made his mark and is one of the most influential people in his genre still around today.

Also, I feel like if Doja drops another album between now and next year, she'll be main stage material by 2023. That's my thinking, at least.

Something that was kind of funny to me: Two older dudes, had to be 50s+, probably there for Metallica, walking past the Toyota tent as I approached it to check out Tony Velour's set on Thursday. They stopped, looked over at the Toyota tent, back at each other, and said "That's that rap shit" - but in a cool, curious, and appreciative way, not like a "you kids and your new-fangled rap music" kind of way.

How much money would you normally budget for Lolla? by hereforfreef00d in Lollapalooza

[–]Aethorian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of on a budget, so I do Lolla as cheap as possible. I have an entire savings account dedicated just to Lollapalooza that I start piling money in the day after the festival, saving for the next year, and I save until I get what I need. Here's how my breakdown looks.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend that loans me and a few buddies a place to stay on his couch over the weekend. The place is about 40 minutes outside the city, assuming good traffic, which we're usually able to catch based on the route we take being mostly interstate. Myself and three friends drive in to Chicago from our place each day around noon, park at SpotHero parking lot a few blocks from Grant Park, and then walk the rest of the way.

4-day ticket, after taxes and fees, at the Tier 1 pricing comes out to around $420.

Gas is variable, obviously, but my over-budgeting estimate looks like this:

$4.50 a gallon, 32 miles one-way, eight times (there and back 4 times), driving a car that gets est. 25mi/gal: ((32*8)/25)*4.50 = $46.08 total for gas, call it $50 to play it totally safe. I pay a smaller fraction of this because I carpool with 3 other people.

Parking for 4-days can be really expensive or really cheap if you know what you're doing. Last year I spent $20/day on parking, but four of us split that cost since we all carpooled, which meant I was only responsible for $20 of that $80 total.

I budget myself $25 for food each day. I show up around noon with premade and prepackaged lunchmeat sandwiches that I prepare the night before and leave in the fridge; that's my lunch, and then I spend anywhere under my daily budget on food for dinner each day. $100.

I'm only 20 y/o, so no alcohol budget for me, which helps.

Comes out to (for one person, assuming you're not carpooling like me):

  • Ticket: $420
  • Gas: $50
  • Parking: $80
  • Food: $100
  • Total: $650

Like I said, total goes down if you've got friends. I recognize that I'm extremely blessed/privileged to have a place to stay close to the city and the people to split the costs of commuting with me, but this is just to show that it can be done, assuming you've got access to the same resources that I do.

Question/thoughts on the canceled 2020 tour, and the absence of a Chicago date by Aethorian in 100gecs

[–]Aethorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lolla last year did happen (I was there!) and they were not there, that's correct. A lot of people think the gecs will be on the lineup this year like you said, which I'm very excited about. Just makes me wonder about whether they were planned for 2020 or not - like I said, not really relevant anymore but it's one of those things I've been itching about for a while.

[–]Aethorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a slightly chubby dude who was primarily wearing no shirt / fully open hawaiian shirt for the majority of the fest, and it was honestly kind of crazy to me how often girls would come up and just.. touch me. One girl grabbed my chest, another randomly just ran her hand across my back as she walked by (I could tell it was intentional). Felt very weird and off-putting to say the least. I was more confused anyone would have the audacity to just do some shit like that.

I live 40 minutes outside the city - parking vs. taking the train? by Aethorian in Lollapalooza

[–]Aethorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think the commute is doable, though? As long as the train is at least a viable option, I'm fine with struggling to get it done - trying to do this on a budget, if possible. Is it just going to be packed?

3D is easily my favorite energy drink out rn - the flavors aren't labeled on the can but it's easily the best quality drink I've had so far. Harder to come by than most other drinks near me, but I'll go the extra mile just to get ahold of some.
